There are quite a few animals with "incorrect" names that confuse people.

I know, when Callitrichidae were separated from Cebidae I just couldn't handle it anymore...

when we were on the J1 in AMerica there were a load of irish lads working in the local seaworld where there was a petting zoo full of rabbits near to the Orca whale tank. Im sure you can guess what happened one night when the lads were drunk.

The whales need to be living in captivity like they need a hole in the head. Jeesh.

I know this is After Hours but a little bit of discretion wouldn't go astray - someone is dead.

hhmmmm besides that being ridiculously cruel and disgusting..I wouldn't say much else happened.

Rabbits AFAIK don't tend to be able to swim so it would drown and secondly a tiny fluffy rodent whilst sharing some small similarity to a TINY seal mightn't exactly fit in to an orcas natural prey range.

I was just after watching a documentary about Luna the killer whale and how friendly it was in Canada when I heard this.

Hey, if people as important as celebrities don't get it, what chance do you suspect this doll has?

Don't think anyone has ripped the piss out of her, maybe you can quote me wrong.

I love the way they keep referring to IT as "he" and "him"

There's a related article which lists the "string of deaths" of wildlife trainers (oxymoronic).

March 1991: Pamela Orsi, 27, an animal trainer, was trampled to death as she tried to break up a fight between two elephants at San Diego Wild Animal Park, California. She suffered fatal head injuries in the clash of the two Asian elephants, each weighing more than two and a half tons.

And the second ever recorded death involving an Orca is one in captivity again!

Perfectly fine to use "he" and "him" seing as they know the sex of the whale.

You play with fire, you're going to get burned.

I feel sorry for her family and friends, but she spent day in and day out playing games with a 5 tonne wild animal kept in captivity, so she knew the risks and she died doing what she loved doing.

I feel about as much sorrow for her as I did for Roy (of Sigfried and Roy) after he was mauled by a wild animal that he'd kept in captivity and forced to perform tricks.

These are intelligent mammals - if they're sufficiently hungry or angry, they're probably going to find something small and defenseless and take it out on them, no matter how much you think you've trained them.

In the wild, Orcas are no threat to humans, but if they're hungry enough I'm sure a swimmer makes a tasty meal.

Just because this hapened doesnt mean whales arent friendly. He was probably just bored and playing with her and didnt realise it would result in her death.

I feel sorry for the trainer who died, but I feel even more sorry for the poor whale, who has to live his whole life stuck in a fishbowl performing tricks for stupid Americans.

    Firstly, he isn't a whale.

    Secondly, these creatures are predators.
They will literally rip Minke whales to pieces. They are violent creatures, they just don't tend to eat humans by choice.
