Sold to SeaWorld as a stud in 1992, the whale was involved in a second incident in which authorities discovered the body of a naked man lying across his back in July 1999.

    tee hee...

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Dan Brown, the park’s manager, fought back tears as he said the trainer ‘drowned in an incident with one of our killer whales'. He wouldn’t comment on what is likely to happen to the killer whale.

Tilly for short, suddenly jumped out of the 35-foot-deep tank, grabbed the 40-year-old trainer around the waist and "thrashed her all around".

Someone orca warned her of the danger tbh.:(

Do you wanna delete that post? It's not up to standard at all!

OT, I hope they don't get rid of the Whale because of this! :( There are inherent dangers but as long as the staff are willing to accept them there is no reason to get rid of it!

And releasing it to the wild is simply not feasible, it's probably too domesticated now! :(

Agreed. They're usually quite docile creatures as well until you coop them up in a tank and force them to perform.

Ah lads, sperm me the put downs.:p

If I was a whale and was kept in a tank, however big it was, I would take the first chance I got to attack the human I saw to be the one helping to keep me there.

It's not like the name of the whale was inconspicuous now, is it?

    Oh er, missus.

I'm afraid the killer part is almost as inappropriate as the whale part (they're actually dolphins).

"Reasonably Peaceful Dolphin" doesn't quite catch the headlines though

So why the different term when identifying them?

Surely Whales are classed as different to dolphins?

Hmmm. I think the Japanese might be able to come up with a few recipes ideas there.

Ahem - and before anyone else says it:

    F*ck you whale, f*ck you dorephin !!!

They are. It's probably to do with mis-translations down the years. For instance, Hippopotamus is Greek for 'river horse' but obviously it's not a horse. I'm fairly sure it's not the only instance of animals having incorrect names but none come to mind at the moment.

For some reason this sentence evokes images in my head of eric idle in his best monty python voice saying "It is to an horse"

There are quite a few animals with "incorrect" names that confuse people. Guinea pigs, MeerKats, Prairie dog's which have no connection with pigs, cats or dogs. :)

How does a killer whale get 'history' for the occurence of a naked man dying of hypothermia?

Must have seduced him out of his clothes i suppose, silver tongued devil.

Yeah, I heard before that a Prairie dog was a type of ground squirrel.

And a Meerkat is a type of Mongoose, that originated from South Africa.

It's confusing to say the least.

We went on a whale watching trip in Canada, and all we saw were loads of killer whales at a huge distance.

No-one could understand why I was pissed.

Wonder if that whale used to live in barrymoores pool. Would get him off the hook.

when we were on the J1 in AMerica there were a load of irish lads working in the local seaworld where there was a petting zoo full of rabbits near to the Orca whale tank. Im sure you can guess what happened one night when the lads were drunk.

The whales need to be living in captivity like they need a hole in the head. Jeesh.

hhmmmm besides that being ridiculously cruel and disgusting..I wouldn't say much else happened.

Rabbits AFAIK don't tend to be able to swim so it would drown and secondly a tiny fluffy rodent whilst sharing some small similarity to a TINY seal mightn't exactly fit in to an orcas natural prey range.

Hey, if people as important as celebrities don't get it, what chance do you suspect this doll has?

I love the way they keep referring to IT as "he" and "him"

There's a related article which lists the "string of deaths" of wildlife trainers (oxymoronic).

March 1991: Pamela Orsi, 27, an animal trainer, was trampled to death as she tried to break up a fight between two elephants at San Diego Wild Animal Park, California. She suffered fatal head injuries in the clash of the two Asian elephants, each weighing more than two and a half tons.
