yeah, a grand in one swoop is a big outlay, not to mention risky IMO.

Anyway, I've seen Sky Italia packages selling for a lot more than €1,000 unless I'm looking at the wrong retailers.

I for one would rather pay €950 over say four 3 montly payments then hand over €950 in one go. The problem is its alot of money to depart with in one go. I see you go on about sky being €1,000 but thats over 12 monthly payments which makes it more appealing and easier to afford. Not many would willingly hand over the best part of €1,000 to pay their yearly tv sub in one go.

I take your point but you have to remember that it's a 12 month contract with Sky Italia which then automatically renews for another year. It can only be cancelled on that one day a year (and only then by giving 30 days notice) unlike UK Sky where a 30 day notice period is enough to cancel anytime after the first year.
If a reseller allowed staggered payments and then the client decided he didn't like the product then he, the reseller, would have to pay up the remainder of the contract out of his own pocket. That's why they insist on a full years sub up front.

whoever is interested in gettin sky italia , should look on ebay.it rather than .ie or .com
i often found prices to be cheaper that way

Did you buy a sub from ebay.it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭j4vier

no but i'm italian so i did some research on it a while ago
on ebay.it if you type abbonamento sky , you will get some sellers who sell prepaid cards for 12 months at the list price
you still have to pay it in one go, but its cheaper than some international sites who sell them at a higher cost

Not a bad price, you'll still need a sky italia receiver.

These are available from some sat shops though is the card not paired to the box like Sky here ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭j4vier

I have read of people watchin sky ita on their clarke receivers so I don't think that only the sky boxes work
and I'm pretty sure they are not paired too

    cheers for the ebay link!

what other costs would there be in setting up a system to get sky italia? would you need a 1m dish?

how much is the sky italia box?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 448 ✭✭blocparty

im also interested in getting al jazeera, would it be possible to run that and sky italia off the same satellite? would it require 2 boxes to run this? and could you watch both at the same time on different channels?

does anyone know the rights for next year for both al jazeera and sky italia?

60cm dish should be fine for 13E although I would recommend going slightly bigger.

Both Al Jazeera and Sky Italia are on 13E.

Not sure if you need an official sky italia receiver to view sky italia.

If you had 2 receivers with a twin lnb then yes you can watch both at the same time.

cheers for that, one is on hot bird 8 and the other 9, would this make a difference or does it just have to be 13e?

so id need two boxes though right? any recommendations on what would be best for al jazeera? assuming i need a sky italia box?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭j4vier

    hey
if you wanna get both you definetly need 2 receivers if you plan on gettin an official sky italia one cos al jazeera wont work on that.
if i were you, id look at gettin a receiver that can handle both using cam modules; i dont know too much about this but i have heard of people using a clarke receiver to watch their sky subscription and that would allow u to watch al jazeera as well .

i dont know however why u would need both..if you get sky italia you pretty much get it all..

ill have a look into the clarke receiver, would i be able to watch both at the same time on different tvs?

the reason I want to get both is because al jazeera has a lot of spanish football and also quite a bit of dutch. they might also be getting more premiership next year but we'll wait and see. also im going to continue with my sky package until the end of this season and wait to get italia until the summer as its not been confirmed they have next seasons rights yet is it?

al jazeera is also very cheap so its a nice way of testing it all out

cheers for your help mate, you sky italia info is great

Sky Italia seems to nearly cover all bases (no word yet if Sky Italia secured the same EPL rights for next season??)

Still, Al Jazeera isn't expensive, and IMO, has been great value for money.

I must admit, I'm leaning heavily towards a Sky Italia HD box and sub for next season, and not bothering about any others. Though it renders my motorised dish a bit redundant!

Sky Italia has already secured the Premiership rights for the next 3 seasons and has the English cup competitions secured until the end of the 2011-12 season.
The Spanish and German leagues are also signed up to the end of 2011-12.
They've also got the rights to England home internationals and Under 21's, again until the end of the 2011-12 season.

Not a bad price??? This guy is selling more or less at the ACTUAL price!! There's only €15 profit in it for him, does that make sense to you guys???
    Mondo + Sport + Calcio is €56 p.m which is €672 p.a.
I wouldn't trust this guy as far as I'd throw him or any other Italian ebayer either.

Just to clear up a few points made earlier:
Italian cards are NOT married to the boxes. But box details are retained by Sky so this could be implemented in the future, however unlikely it may look now.
There are receivers that will read the Sky Italia card but not all will pass the card updates meaning the card will need to be placed in a Sky Italia box every month or so. Otherwise your card will go off!
Remember, a guy on ebay can disappear at any time! You've only got his word that your card has been prepaid for a year. There's a saying here in Italy: "Che bella fregatura", look it up!!

Sky italia HD or normal sub? Sky Italia HD pre paid subs are very hard to get hold of?

    You won the lotto Byte?

Yes i was thinking the same mate.

Of all the sellers ive came across tvcorner.com seem to have the best price, but again, NO HD.

Cyfra+ have done me proud with my HD games and then Al Jazeera/art showtime maghreb for other games. Great value.

Oh, I thought all cards were the same and that there was no charge on HD channels?

Well, I'd be wanting HD. Back to the drawing board so :(

Not sure what you mean by 'all cards are the same' but I can assure you that a subscriber to Sky Italia does not pay extra for the HD channels unlike the €15 a month rip-off that Sky UK charges.

No english audio on the sports, not the end of the world for me!

I thought Sky Italia cards only worked in sky italia boxes, so you would need an HD box for the HD channels?

Its still a lot of dollar for the package!

There are a number of receivers that you can use with the Italian card (Spiderbox, Dreambox for example) but not all will pass on the updates so the card needs to be placed in an official Sky box once a month.

Snaps just said that HD subs were hard to get hold of. I had thougth the subs were all the same (SD/HD), the receiver being the deciding factor whether you got HD channels or not.
