Its not about revenue initially. Its about any publicity is good publicity.
Also back home, they can try to keep up the claim that they are a charitable organisation in order to still receive tax-free status with the Internal Revenue Service in the states.
(A status that is currently being looked at seriously for review)

Beside the plane that John used (at his own cost) they have actually spent little else.
Besides donated items to the cult, its just strange manpower - healing of hands from the power of "Xenu!"
The members get little or no pay as it is anyway so the cult is seriously not losing out revenue-wise but sowing many seeds of possible gain later in a number of ways.
O' and note in the pictures (and video news clips of previous similar events - youtube, etc) that they take every opportunity to sell/advertise their "bibles" and its wacky internal rubbish.
As someone has mentioned already, they did this at 9-11 alone and it was a sickening sight to see.

Is the actual charity mentioned or is he giving it to the cult - they call themselves a charity on events as this?

This whole thing is a publicity exercise for Scientology. They did the same after September 11th and 7/7 lin London. They actually hampered rescue efforts at thse by trying to keep psychologists away from councelling victims.

I think people have me wrong, I'm saying his plane, and himself as a qualified pilot, are immeasurably useful. It costs a lot to keep anything big in the sky, and he pays for it himself, so assuming he's bringing in supplies that are needed and not just cultists, it's a good thing.

Look at the likes of Vin Diesel, charters a plane, fills it with food, medical supplies and baby formula and flies it down. Fast and Furious co-star Paul walker charters a plane and instead of giving money gets a load of medical staff and flies them down. Some celebs are helping .... other s are being dicks.

Should we care whether their motives are selfless or not? I'm sure a lot of it is PR, but is the result any different?

I was on another USA website and they made a very good point that the number of daily flights and cargo into Haiti is still very limited.

How did a bunch of cultist mind-controllers manage to land ahead of tents and food supplies ahead of say flights from Europe, Asia or South America.
The people are weak, hungry, sleepless, dehydrated. Very similar to the state that the Scientologist Cult (they are not a Church) get new members in before they break down their mental barriers and rebuild/reprogramme them with "courses".
Kicking the poor people of Haiti when they are down is what I see it as, Travolta and Company (money making empire) should bow their heads in shame.
