Does a Heart Rate Monitor calculate cals burned?

Hi guys
As the title says does a HRM calculate cals burned during exercise? Or is there a gadget which does? How accurate are readings for cals burned on the treadmill etc.. in gym? How would I go about estimating cals burned from lifting weights?

Well my HRM counts Cals, how accurate it is I've no idea.

I'm not even sure how its calculated, for HRM advice (I love training with the HRM) I ask Cowzerp (A Mod on the MMA forum).

Simple enough. There are lots of online calculators out there but the simplest method is to get your heart rate for the session (probably the average over the session is best) and use it and the time.

Does your HRM download or generate reports? A lot of the Polars will calculate cals burned without using the likes of this. http://www.triathlontrainingblog.com/?page_id=483

Roper I don't have a HRM yet, but If they were accurate enough I'd get one, where would I get one? Are they expensive?

You can pay anything from €20 to €200 depending on what you want. For basic heart rate readouts, 20 bills, for telemetry and computery stuff, €80 and upwards.
