UPC - Self-Install - How long to receive box?

Thinking about going the self-install HD route with UPC. I assume they have a delivery/postage service so How long (from the time I order) does it generally take to receive the box? If I take the self-install option do I then have to send my old box back to them?

Two days or so and the same people that deliver the new box take the old one away.

how do u get more info on self install, is it on the website and do u need to run extra cable for digital+ HD

Interesting point Veronica, do you need an additional cable with UPC HD+ (as you would with its SKY equivalent)?

You need to have a point in the room you wish to install.

If don't have a point they must install one in that case forget self install.

You only need one cable for Digital plus HD it's not like Sky.

Each tuner on a Sky box needs it's own LNB from the dish that is why most Sky dishes have quad LNBs.

Cable only requires one cable per box.

Thank u but what to you mean by a point do you mean the silver box that i have in the attic with cable?

No a wall point a white small plastic box stuck to your wall with cable connections.

If you don't have one of these in the room you wish to install you have a problem.:)

I have one in the attic and the black cable runs down through ceiling into my upc tuner so is it just a matter of replacing? Also down stairs I have cable which is about 20yrs old connected outside to UPC so if I get digital+ could I move my current UPC box downstairs and use for multiroom?

If you have a cable with a good signal in the area you want the box thats all you need.

If you request multi-room you can keep your old box.
All you need is a cable with a good signal.

If the signal is bad on any of these cables then you will need UPC to install these professional points for you.

Thanks again so all I need to do is replace my current box with HD one?

If they are running HD in your area that is have you checked?
If not it will just be regular Digital Plus.

Yes they have HD but may just go for digital+ not many channels on HD.thank u so much for your help!

Digital+HD is now the same price as regular digital+ so you may aswell go with HD.

just saw the follwing info on UPC.ie A €60 equipment activation fee applies to all orders that are not placed online, orders placed online will get an online order credit of €20. so does this mean if u go self install i will get caught for this fee...anybody know?

Don't know about that end of it you are better off giving them a call in the morning on 1908.

€60 Equipment Activation Fee for HD
€20 Credit for ordering online
€10 Credit for ordering self install
So effectively you can connect up for €30 and €5 subscription per month thereafter.

Thanks for checking but u mean if I do self install they are charging me €30 to press a button on a computer to activate the box....if so are they serious no way would i pay such a charge for them doing nothing! Also u cannot order self install online so how do u get the €20 credit

I ordered the self install Digital + box on Monday. Still no contact from UPC. Rang them this morning and they said they would prioritise my order. Still no contact. Not impressed:mad:

My mother ordered the digital + box from them on Monday for her place,she un-knowingly ordered it as self-install,it came by courier today which meant I had to traipse round on the icy footpaths to set it up for her!

It's simple as to set up,plug it into the wall,enter the activation code and job done!
There was no channel's coming through(not subscribed even tho she does)so a quick call to upc and 5 mins later was up and running.
Nice looking little box too and a lot quiter then the sky+ box ive got here.

I ordered an additional digital box (multiroom) on Tuesday which I intend to install myself, I had to ring them because the €50 charge for 'non-standard installs' refused to go away on the form on the web. The call agent suggested Friday morning delivery which I said was ok. He said someone would call me on Thursday to confirm the delivery.

Got a call this afternoon from a guy in Cyclone couriers who said they would deliver on Fri. afternoon. When I pointed out that I had agreed Fri. morning with UPC he said that the call agent shouldn't have narrowed it down to a half day - he seemed to suggest that they (the courier company) should be able to dictate which half of the day was designated for delivery i.e. what suited him was more important than what was convenient for me.

Anyway we compromised by him agreeing to deliver to my place of work so I won't have to hang around the house waiting for them.

It does say under conditions that there is a charge of €30 and thanks for info.

Good old NTL/UPC still seem to be all over the shop!
I ordered the Max with Digi+ package on Monday and went for self install. Was e-mailed an acknowledgement soon after, with a sort of invoice attachment telling me I'd be paying €9 extra per month, and in the "once off charges" field was €0.
The other day I had a voicemail on my phone from UPC to contact them about my order. When I did, the person I spoke to had no idea what they might have wanted and said she'd pass it on to another department and they'd call me.
Still no call but on Wednesday I got a mail saying that installation had been booked for the date I requested!!? Next Monday between 9 and 12.
And there's an activation charge of €20.

I'll have to ring them tomorrow and see if I'm to wait for an installer or a courier, and where the €20 charge came out of.

Clear as mud but it could be read as: They're going to charge me €20 to activate the box but give me €20 credit for ordering online. Maybe. I'm moving from analogue TV to Max Digital+ btw.

I believe I will have to pay €10 for the courier, this wasn't mentioned on the website but it's probably included in the €50 for 'non-standard installs' which I think means they come to you and do the setup.
