So I was wombling in the snow today (no-one saw) when it struck me - what exactly are the Wombles? Rats? Voles? Some kind of rodent? Now I know that Snarf from the Thundercats is a snarf, because he's from a race of Snarfs and helpfully his name is also Snarf - but Wombles?

Living off crap and surrounded by filth in Wimbledon Common? They were students!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I never really like the wombles.

But to answer OP's question, I've no idea, they're just......wombles.

They were the biggest sellers in the charts in 1976 - FACT !

Some lad booked the wombles for Dublin on their tour. Sent a limo to Dublin airport to pick them up. Instead of a group there was a just set of costumes and a backing tape :D

They were also about 30 years ahead of their time. Ie brainwashing kids into Green fascism. :D

Their motto is "Make Good Use of Bad Rubbish." This "green" message was a reflection of the ecology movement of the 1970s. Although Wombles live in every country in the world, the stories focus on the life of the burrow in Wimbledon Common in London, England.

Shame it didn't work too well.

I've heard plenty of stories of young kids walking down by Wimbledom Common, and throwing cans/wrappers on the floor. When asked why, they replied it was to attract the Wombles :D :pac:

The WOMBLES (White Overalls Movement Building Libertarian Effective Struggles) are a loose and nimble anti-capitalist group based in London that once dressed in white overalls with padding and helmets at protests, mimicking the Italian group Tute Bianche.

Didn't Enya use the name of one of the characters for one of her songs?

I was with some friends and one of us won a womble toy at Funderland in the late '70's. Furry body but a paper triangular shaped nose. If that's a help to anybody.
