knew there would be a catch. and it's petrol too.

It pays to look at the fine print and be skeptical. I would have just accepted the car. turns out it's a petrol X6 that isn't even new :(

    Oh well.

X6. The least these people could have done was pick a desirable BMW.

    Here's your old X6 btw.

From the email the BMW UK headquarters address looks correct but the phone and fax number don't:

    BARRISTER.ALBERT STOLLER,
    BMW Claims Manager
    DIRECT EMAIL:barr.albert.strollerdesk@9.cn
    TEL: (+44) 703-592-8180.
    Fax: +44 7005-934-945

According to google the correct phone and fax numbers for BMW UK are:

    Phone: +44-1344-426-565
    Fax: +44-1344-480-203

From memory the 703 in the email phone number above is a mobile network prefix similar to 87, etc here.

Albert Stroller isn't he one of the characters in BBC's Hustle played by Robert Vaughn;)
In the series, Vaughn plays elder-statesman con artist Albert Stroller, a father figure to a group of younger grifters.

D'oh they made this one too obvious

No offence meant by this but there are people who do use the internet and forums like this that will be caught out by this scam and nobody alluding to it on this forum would only help matters.

Tell him you that under irish law, you must pay for "importation and transport tax" before collecting anything. It is standard €127 (£100 old punts). Advise him that as its Christmas, you dont have the money at hand. Ask him to send it over to the tax account (yours) and then you will be able to go over and collect it.
