It pays to look at the fine print and be skeptical. I would have just accepted the car. turns out it's a petrol X6 that isn't even new

From memory the 703 in the email phone number above is a mobile network prefix similar to 87, etc here.

Tell him you that under irish law, you must pay for "importation and transport tax" before collecting anything. It is standard €127 (£100 old punts). Advise him that as its Christmas, you dont have the money at hand. Ask him to send it over to the tax account (yours) and then you will be able to go over and collect it.
