Hey... Im not in the course but want to do it next year... Just wondering are the lectures really big and is it hard to make friends??

Are the Physics and Chemistry lectures smaller than the Biology ones??

It's just some people say that UCD is better/ more fun etc so it's hard to decide between the two.

    Also is it hard?

Oh and say if you start doing Physics and change your mind can you switch to Bio?

    Thanks

Not at all. It's ridiculously easy to make friends, sure everyone is in the same boat as you. There seems to be very little cliqueyness in TR071.

Yes. Physics is the Schrodinger and is combined with PCAM and TP(sometimes) and even then the numbers are small in comparsion to say Biology in the Goldsmith. Chemistry is also in the Goldsmith, but doesn't seem as packed.
It's just some people say that UCD is better/ more fun etc so it's hard to decide between the two.
Personal opinion, Fad is in UCD Science he'll answer that question I'm sure.
Also is it hard?{/quote] For me, the Physics assignments are by far the hardest, and I think they are difficult enough. But with a couple of heads knocked together most assignments are easily done.
Oh and say if you start doing Physics and change your mind can you switch to Bio?

Depends on whether the Biology labs are full or not in your particluar year. Biology has a huge uptake rate in Science and is by far the most common subject. This year I switched over from TSM to Science and if I wanted to do Biology I'm nearly 100% sure I wouldn't have gotten it. But it depends on the year I suppose.

    Thanks for that

How come u didn't have the same choice as everyone?? Even if u swaped courses u were starting off like everyone else??

I know u say Physics is hard but do you think its worth it?? I do all three Sciences for the LC and at the mo Phys and Chem are my favourites but I am a bit scared to go down the road of Maths, Phys and Chem next year incase it's too hard!

Plus this option would rule me out of alot of subjects in third year while Biology and Chem would allow me to specialise in way more areas. At least I think that's right from my research!!

Physics shouldn't be too hard if you've done it for the Leaving Cert although I'm finding it really boring now as a TP. Astrophysics is terrible. I really like special relativity although if you do science, you don't do that till second year. Can't really say much about the social side during lectures since TPs just keep to themselves. The thing about choosing Biology to get more choices is pointless though if you prefer Physics/Chemistry.

I think Astrophysics is the best thing since sliced bread tbh.

Get used to it. I despised astrophysics and was unimpressed that I was continually forced to take courses in it.

I'm meant to have a Biology lab usually on a Friday at 2 and we've to hand our manual in, but everyone who usually has their lab at 10 seems to only be heading in now, anyone know if that means I've to piss about til 4?

If it's the same as last year the FP lab will be Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. They could obvisously change that though.

The new timetable has been up for quite some time under the 'choose timetable' link.
My Wednesday lab's been switched to Friday so now all my days are evenly spread except for a 3 hour gap on Wednesdays.

Not too much of a fan of my new timetable... meh
