.... but look at that crash, the damage to the car and van, it took speed on at least one side to cause that amount of damage!

    ...frankly, that comment is disgraceful.

You know nothing about the circumstances of the accident, nor the particular corner in question, which only weeks before, had another fatality on it, and if nothing else, using the tragedy that was, as some stick to beat up others, whilst ignoring the RSA's own facts that speed is the cause of only a small % of accidents, is just more of that typical speed kills bull****.

    And lest I be misunderstood:
    Speed Does Not Kill

Stupidity on the other hand, does. Even at walking pace.

    ....just ask Richard Hammond

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

If memory serves me right the Hamster crashed on a drag strip or airport runway. What kills you are the lamp posts, walls, trees, oncoming vehicles etc. that you collide with. The speed you hit them at has a direct impact on survivability.

Seems I post this about every month. NOBODY is saying speed is the cause of the accident. They are saying that once it happens your speed is what contriibutes to the effect, which is where the kills part comes in.

They won't be able to operate on motorways, they are mobile units and it's an offence to park a vehicle on a motorway (they won't be owned by the Gardai). They are supposed to be operating on the speeding blackspots on the Garda website.

I have not read beyond this post yet but Im sure you'll be told that all Guards are outside the rules of the road traffic act which pretty much says its fine for them to do something dangerous and for everybody else illegal just because the rules say. And with regard to your own post, well it didnt stop them parking a gatso Transit at that awful accident blackspot where 1000's have died, the start of the slip road coming off the M50 at the Red Cow ( south bound ) :D. Yup , lots of lives saved that night. I wouldnt mind but there is actually a pull in parking place for this type of thing about 3-400 meters before the spot where he safely parked. Bloody joke. I fully support anything the Guards do to make dangerous roads safer and so should we all but that type of sh!te is just a joke. Expect more of it I'd say.

Which opens the way for a slew of legal challenges.

Good point, the law states that we are unable to challenge guards for proof of calibration of equipment etc, but they will have to supply it on a regular basis.

It will be a private organisation using a Garda Letterhead.

AGS and RSA claim speed causes accidents all the time.
And if you look at their ads, the vast majority are designed to show that speeding causes accidents.
