    Arctic Monkeys - Crying Lightning
Them Crooked Vultures - New Fang
    Pearl Jam - The Fixer

2009 has been a terrible year for music. Nothing exciting other than the 3 bands above imo. Maybe florence and the machine also...

Have to speak out against The Temper Trap tho. They really are a dire band.

You really need to listen harder.

Mind you, that complaint comes up every year. There's always exciting music. Years are just the passing of time.

I've been very content the past few years with what i've been hearing. I found this year to be especially boring and samey. Everything was hype this year. Nothing good has come of it, just a bunch of names that i've already forgotten(thankfully).

Naturally theres material coming out thats good, but its very diluted this year imo

Florence and The Machine - You've Got The Love

Am I alone in hating this track? I love the album (except Kiss with a Fist and My Boy Makes Coffins), but this latest release smacks of something done for a charity album.

Why do a cover when her own work is so stunning?

    My top 3 -

    1. Rabbit Heart - Flo
    2. Audacity of Huge - Simian Mobile Disco
    3. Crying Lightning - Arctic Monkeys

And it's been a great year - all those mentioned plus Wild Beasts, Simian Mobile Disco, Fleet Foxes, The Raconteurs, Brendan Benson, La Roux, Noah and the Whale...

Maybe not the best song of the year, but I had to mention it anyway: The Big Pink - Dominoes.

As for my favourites this year:

    Julie Feeney - Impossibly Beautiful
Fleet Foxes - White Water Hymnal (I realise it was late 2008, but I'm gonna count it anyway)
Passion Pit - The Reeling/Sleepyhead/Moths Wings

Late is a bit of an overstatement? The album came out summer 2008

    1. Spinnerette - "Baptized By Fire"
    2. Bat for Lashes - "Daniel"
    3. The xx - "Crystallised"

Them Crooked Vultures-Gunman(find that grooviest so far, but many great songs)
    Pearl Jam-Force of Nature
    Dream Theater-Count of Tuscany

Honourable mention to Transatlantic-The Whirlwind, but thats a 77 minute song, and couldn't just include the epic last section. Valium Knights by Spinnerete is good tune too.

    I'm gonna pull 3 quick ones off the top of my head which may not be my true best songs of the year but I find narrowing songs down to be tougher than albums when it comes to lists;

The Horrors - I Only Think of You
    Animal Collective - My Girls
Franz Ferdinand - Turn it On

They my favourite songs at the moment. There has been better tracks like cosmic love, my girls and sweet disposition but for the sake of variety in the thread!
