Honestly though, I think a study was released recently that apparently confirmed banging your cousing (or 2nd cousin I think) would have no harm in relation to kids as we're technically just far away enough in genes.

I'm Irish and my parents are both form different countries not from Ireland. Does this make me frighteningly close in terms of relation? I don't think we're all 'frighteningly close' in terms of relations in Ireland at all. Speak for your inbred self.

As for the second point:

We are a country of around 4.5 million people (less than 10% of Britain or France to contextualise this) that:

- would be easily good enough to compete in the soccer (our 2nd sport in the country) World Cup (and arguably should be there). Arguably of a standard that would reach the top 16 in the world.

- has a rugby team that has gone unbeaten the whole of 2009 playing against the world's best, and are the best rugby team in the whole of Europe (our 3rd sport).

- is the best at GAA in the world (ok lame point cos we have no one that we're up against except for the Aussies in the International rules if that counts, but still relevant considering that Gaelic games are the most popular in the country and reduces our already miniscule population pool for more widely recognised sports.)

- Golf: I know very little about this sport but isn't Padraig Harrington considered one of the best (if not the best) in Europe?

As for government, well meh, I would blame the voters more than anyone at this stage if they're not going to make an informed descision.
