With the report of the cover up by the Catholic Church released today will you think twice about going to mass on sunday?

It sickens me to think that I will go and be part of this organisation but for a quite life I will go anyway. I should be ashamed of myself

In the same way I'd visit Germany, take a tour of Parliament or look around the site of the Boston Tea Party.

Things happened in the past. Terrible, despicable, inexcusable things. But that was the past. It has no place in the present.

The church of the time should be ridiculed for what happened, but not, per se, the church of today.

I understand the majority of posters here won't agree, but it's just my opinion

I haven't gone to mass in at least 10 years, report makes no difference, we knew for a long time that this sort of thing was going on just not in so much detail I suppose.

You're assuming the current crop are doing no wrong. I suppose that's possibly true, but I doubt it.

Are all the rapists gone then? I suppose all those people who were abused should just accept the fact that its in the past and stop whinging about being raped, sure that has no place in the present

I'm also quite annoyed at my parents(and other parents who do it today) that just raise their children as Catholic and tell them that's the truth. Let them make up their own mind when they're old enough ffs.

But if I did regularily go then this would have no affect on whether I would go on Sunday or not. Chances are your local priest is going to be equally as disgusted by the report as you are. He'll more than likely be embarrassed to be a member of an institution that could cover up such things.

If you believe in god (or don't but want a quiet life) then go. If you don't believe in god then don't go. Every single person in your church on Sunday will be equally as disgusted, including the one in the robe.

Don't go to mass but you can't tar a whole organisation on the actions of a few individuals. There are plenty of good honest priests out there who do a lot of good work in the community.

After all the Catholic Church educated and ran hospitals for most of the country when the State wasn't up to the task.

I haven't gone in years. The quite life from who OP?? I was forced as a kid to go every Sunday and TBH I thought that kind of thing was in the past,most parents in touch with reality would let their children make their own decisions about what they believe or whether they go to church, I certainly would.I thought the days of the ole catholic guilt were over.

How am I to know if "all the rapists are gone"? I doubt the vast majority of sexual criminals are caught; I don't hate society because of it.

I'm not saying we should forget about it and sweep it under the carpet - people should be outraged, horrible acts were committed.
I'm just saying that the actions of the church in the past should not be used as a benchmark against which to judge the present-day church.

In todays law and compensation fascinated world while the Catholic church no longer pulls the strings in the government, if a similar scandal was occuring I'd put money on it that it would be found out within days of it happening.

Reclaim YOUR church. Keep attending the services, change from within. If the perverts spent their time praying, they would not have had the time for preying.

There are many good priests and Catholics out there, who are saddened and disgusted with what went on as well as the cover up attempts.

We all need prayer at this time.
