Sherbert. (Sherbet?) What ever happened to that?

Was just flicking around you tube as you do and came across this video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I6KJHWtib4

Now i think, you just dont see that anymore. Those massive flocks of birds in the sky flying around in formation. I remember as a kid you would see that regularly. obviously not to the same extent as the video but it gets the point across.

    That's amazing
Seriously I have never, ever seen that before. I'm impressed.
On an offtopic note, every year you get wild geese flying in V formation over North Dublin city. They take breaks on the local GAA pitches and parks around the place. I'm a sucker for all this nature stuff

    What am I missing?
Where are all the phoneboxes gone?? Some left but fewer and fewer...
I asked a guy in a newsagent for an Eircom callcard. Everyone knows what that is, some they were collectors items at one stage. Guy hadn't a clue, tried to sell me some long-distance calling card.
    Eircom: More phoneboxes, not less!

On the payphone theme, I thought of another one:

Payphones in people's houses. We used to have one at home. The aul one made a mistake by not hiding the key to the little cash box away better.

Many a lucky bag & sherbet dip was bought with a family member's phone call funds!

My aunt had one of them too! I always thought it was so strange, now I know that she wasn't the only one. :)

A payphone in your house? What kind of person would have such a thing? How impractical would it be? So many incredulous questions!

Not much bigger than a normal house phone at the time, only it had a coin slot & a small lockable cash drawer underneath. AFAIK you still got your phone bill each month or whatever, but this was supposed to be paid with the money collected in the phone. So you didn't have to fork out a lump sum that you didn't have every month!

Starlings flock like that all over Ireland. Jackdaws do sometimes. Dollymount in Dublin has some amazing swarmings like that over the saltmarshes. Now, things that you don't see anymore?

    Supercans.

The one I remember was a bright yellow bag,and think there was pink or red writing. Can't remember what the image was, might have been a spaceship or UFO?

My mum still uses the expression,"You'd get better in a lucky bag" when she's not impressed with something. :-)

Dead right where have they gone? It was always more fun when they were in the bag mixed somewhere with the cereal as opposed to glued to the inside of the box.

    *sigh*

Heinz spaghetti spirals. Mmmm on toast. They had WAAAAY more sauce than the beans did.

Want some now. The hoops just aren't the same.

why are there still public payphones around? has anyone used one or seen someone use one since 1995?

I use them the whole time when I'm drunk. Doesn't offer you as much privacy as a urinal or cubicle, still does the job though.

Pub Crisps... the ones that came in a green & white bag, marked "Pub Crisps". No crisp has ever tasted as good since.

Don't know if this was a common thing everywhere, but about 11 years ago(approx last time I seen him),there used to be a fruit and veg man who drove around in his van delivering to all the houses about twice a week. He came to us for years. Haven't even heard about that since.

Yeah I remember that usually it was a Hiace van at the side the mammy would buy the veg etc and at the back he sold sweets for the kids

Used to be quite common when a 5 minute phone call to Australia would cost about the same as a 3 course meal in a smart restarant!

And then they had to berry him.

But seriously, I defy anyone to come up with a joke/statement/tax manifesto where "huge turnip" isn't hilarious.
