It'll be interesting if Rachel Wyse can be as entertaining as the guys from TG.

If she can't present properly... just turn off the sound and still watch!

Apparently there was one on RTE years ago that Prat Kenny produced. Anyone remember that or know anything more about it?

I think they are wasting their time for the following reasons:

A: They wont be able to get their hands on hyper/super cars
B: They have a section about big machines?????
C: They are Irish. No one in the UK will watch an Irish made show that rivals with Top Gear.

Don't get me wrong, I wish them luck. But Ireland is not the country for such a show.

People here don't have the love and passion for cars that they have in the UK. People with money here only buy BMW's, Merc's and Audi's. and even at that they buy the biggest "base model" they can afford.

If these guys get passed 1 season I'll be very surprised

Think that was TG4 and fairly recent. Most of the interesting motors in that were based NI.

Drive was one of the worst (if not THE worst) motoring shows I have ever watched...

Every week they reviewed base model cars

    Mondeo LX etc.

The cars didn't even have alloy wheels!
    HUBCAPS!

and they never once reviewed a high performance car.

    waste of time
    waste of money
    waste of space

Drive! Ha I remember that rubbish, it was painfully bad with monotone presenters.. "Now this Fiesta Lx is a good car for driving to superquinn in"

The best car they ever reviewed was an Mr2 with 120hp, sarah the racing driver whatever her name was kept referring to it as the best thing since sliced bread. Surprised she could fit in it, she must have been 6ft6 built like a man. Such an oddball collection of characters on that show.
They had a magazine out for a few years later but have no idea if it still exists.

    Rubbish show

was it not drive that reviewed a dodge viper??
in a wine colour with white stripes, i remember it was filmed driving down the quays in dublin, i dont know where they got it from though:confused:

The only reviews I remember was when Karl Tsigdinos was wearing a purple Toyota town car that was basically a cube with wheels and a Lambo Tractor. Yes, they reviewed tractors.

Conor Twomey on this show wasnt bad in NewCar magazine - just wonder how he will transfer to screen.

If they do get any "exotica" expect lots of adverts for Des Cullen or Richford etc etc

I recall them doing a Dodge Ram 1500...this was long before anyone had even heard of a tiger economy.
The thing wouldn't even fit down the roads they were driving on.

    It does indeed: http://www.drivemagazine.ie/

Don't know how it survives though as it's barely stocked in any shops at all.

its was a very poor effort at a car programme, your wan was no stig and that canadian dude was pure rubbish had no clue about cars

TG4 had a go at this a few years ago Eugeen ferry form donegal that rally's a 2.4 escort and Brid deery that presents on the limits sport used present the programme

I think with Firth Gear gone now (Last series was awful) there is space for a "real" car show, not just an entertaining program that has car's in it.

I think the lads from EVO & Autocar magazines would do a great job. Their web-videos are pretty much the best car "prorgrams" out there.

    They also produce this

    www.edrive.ie

Ireland's first free monthly digital car magazine.

To date Drive are the only title in Ireland to produce a TV show to reach a mass market. That's quite an achievement considering all the competition from UK owned car magazines available here in Eire.

When it was aired on RTE the audience was one of the highest they had reaching very high numbers weekly.

Top Gear is one of a kind, class entertainment a real wild ride.

I can't see how anyone can compete with an audience of however many hundred million viewers that Top Gear has.The BBC have megabucks to produce shows and better still NO ADVERTS unlike Ireland.

Drive was extremely similar to what Top Gear was like at the time, people seem to forget that it also reviewed Mondeo LXs before the relaunch...

I actually prefer seeing Mondeo LX's being reviewed rather than boring Ferrari's that will be an unrealistic ownership proposition for about ninety per-cent of the country.

So does my father. But he doesn't use boards and has never driven a Volvo so I'm going to assume he's not you :p

iMotors doesn't even work. I tried it on 4 computers and the thing doesn't load properly. It takes ages to load up then it breaks down all the time. eDrive from the Drive (www.drivemagazine.ie) stable works and looks pretty good. They could do with more videos on it though.
