Pls tell me more. CKD or TKD? And what foods have fat/protein but no carbs?

Cyclical. If I had the motication when I'm not dieting I'd stick to Targeted for life.

So far to get into Ketosis I've eaten a truckload of eggs, meats, peanut butter, broccoli, onion, small amounts of soy sauce, red peppers, beansprouts, carrots, ginger, garlic, strawberrys, RASPBERRYS, whipped cream and fibre supplements!

I eat small amounts of fibrous veg that have a small carb content.
Starting tomorrow I'm gonna be really strict, starting to count calories now that I'm burning fat.

Going for around 2300 - 2500kCals. Not gonna be pretty, only for a few weeks though!

    Thanks,
I started targetted today and am having trouble finding some sort of list of the right kinds of food.

How long did it take you to get into ketosis and how do you know, are you using pee sticks or is it just the bad breath? Do you think its advisable to get into ketosis before starting on ckd or tkd or to just let it happen as part of the process. I was thinking a mixture of ckd for a few weeks and then move into tkd might be a better approcah for me.

    Good luck with it btw

What does these anagrams mean?

both are types of ketogenic diet, cyclical and targetted. Cyclical has a 24-36 hour carb load phase each week while Targetted has a small carb load before and after training.

Well I'll look for a handy list that I found a year or two ago and I'll post it for you!

It took me about a week before it started saying so on the stix, I used them. But like sometimes it says you're not in Ketosis even if you are. It took me a week before they started saying anything.

    Here's a good article:
    http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/82407-article-ketostix-color.html

I think you should wait two weeks though before ya have a carb up or carbs before/after lifting just to get fully into Ketosis. It'll be worth it though, I feel like I have energy all the time which is amazing then as soon as I go to bed I feel tired which is class, but... if I get up to go toilet I feel like I could run 5km easily. THE ENERGY FEELING IS SAVAGE AFTER A WEEK!

The first few days will be kinda bad though, you'll have a bad stomach probably and you should get fibre supplements!

EAT TONS OF PEANUT BUTTER AND DON'T COUNT CALORIES FOR THE FIRST WEEK OR TWO!
I say this because you should try and get as much fats as possible to get into Ketosis and it's easiest to get used to a diet like this if you don't worry about calories for a while. Plus depsite eating as much as I could for the last ten days I'm already down 10lbs like.

Funkz, Could you post up a typical days diet out of interest?

I am on something similar to a CKD, except I struggle to find alternatives for bread. I usually only have one slice of bread a day with my breakfast of eggs and bacon, so Im sure its not too bad. Other than that its green veg and Chicken/Salmon/Tuna all day.

I would like a bit of variety though thats why Im asking about your diet.

This forum has some amazing recipes, have a look around and you'll find a few useful things to substitute for bread!

So far an average day has been like this for me
    Breakfast: Bacon omelette
Lunch: Broccoli, carrots, some sort of sauce and a meat
Dinner: Stirfry with pork, onion, red peppers, beansprouts, carrots, ginger, garlic, small amounts of soy sauce.

Snacks: Strawberrys, raspberrys marinated in a small amount of orange juice with fresh cream whipped. And then peanut butter throughout the day.

    LOVELY!

    Thats great man cheers.

I've been steadily dieting down for a bit now and have lost just over a stone, have another 8lb or so to go before I want to start bulking up again.

    Im eating:

Slice Toast w/2 bacon, 2 eggs. 20g carbs.

Bowl Veg Soup, Ham/Cheese Roll if feeling tired. Not sure, would say 50g Carbs though.

Chicken Salad w/tomatoes. 4g Carbs max.

Chicken Salad w/tomatoes. 4g Carbs max.

Now see I wanted to cut out the roll at lunch, and I think Im gona replace it with Smoked Salmon stuffed with Cheese.

Then I reckon Im on the right track to be getting into Ketosis? Opinions?

I think once you drop the roll and slice of bread you're gonna need a hell of a lot more fat to get into Ketosis. So I'd go with peanuts, fatty but good meat, a fatty dressing and cheese with your chicken salads.

I don't know what ya weigh but aiming for a counted macronutrient total is a good idea.
I'm going for 200 grams of protein and 150+ grams of fat with minimal carbs.

Smoked samon stuffed with cheese sounds delicious!

More fat, point duly noted. Will replace the slice of bread with an omellete, and for sure the roll with Salmon stuffed with cheese.

I do have cheese with my salads I should note however.

I have problems understanding " a fatty dressing, fatty but good meat" etc. Are we talking pork/bacon/ham here? And can you give me an example of a fatty dressing, one thats not loaded with sugar?

So you weight 200lbs? Yeah, thats what I should aim for. Remember though, Im trying to lose some more body fat so I have to watch the calories. Peanut butter is pretty dense calorie wise so maybe I should avoid it? Or else sub it for something else.

What does these anagrams mean?
Anagrams are the letters all mixed up to form another word
these are acronyms or a TLA (three letter acronym);)
    Killme00 wrote: »

I try to sound all smart but I have to admit I thought TKD was tae kwon do!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acronym
    Contrived acronyms
A contrived acronym is one that has been deliberately designed in such a way that it will be especially apt as a name for the thing being named (such as by having a dual meaning or by borrowing the positive connotations of an existing word).[citation needed] Some examples of contrived acronyms are USA PATRIOT, CAPTCHA, and ACT UP. The clothing company French Connection began referring to itself as fcuk, standing for "French Connection United Kingdom." The company then created t-shirts and several advertising campaigns that exploit the acronym's similarity to the taboo word "****". See the list of fictional espionage organizations for more examples of contrived acronyms.

Some acronyms are chosen deliberately to avoid a name considered undesirable: for example, Verliebt in Berlin (ViB), a German telenovela, was first intended to be Alles nur aus Liebe (All for Love), but was changed to avoid the resultant acronym ANAL. Similarly, the Computer Literacy and Internet Technology qualification is known as CLaIT, rather than CLIT.[citation needed] In Canada, the Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance (Party) was quickly renamed to the Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance when its opponents pointed out that its initials spelled CCRAP (see crap). (The satirical magazine Frank had proposed alternatives to CCRAP, namely S**** and NSDAP.) Two Irish Institutes of Technology (Galway and Tralee) had to choose different acronyms to other institutes when they were upgraded from Regional Technical colleges. Tralee RTC became the Institute of Technology Tralee (ITT), as opposed to Tralee Institute of Technology (TIT). Galway RTC became Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), as opposed to Galway Institute of Technology (GIT). Team in Training is known as TNT and not TIT. Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences is still known as TITS.

Contrived acronyms differ from backronyms in that they were originally conceived with the artificial expanded meaning, while backronyms are later invented expansions.

Good bacon, ya can get loads of **** disgusting slices in the shop. If you're eating say sausages, get it from a butcher and try to get it with 80% meat, emmm... good mince, ya probably tasted the cheap ones in Tescos, disgusting! As for the sauce/dressing, different types of mayonaise!

I weights about 215 thank you for asking haha!
I'm pretty much trying to get anywhere over 150 grams of fat, but trying to stay under 200 grams, varies depending on the day!

Peanut butter is dense but so sooo filling. And there's loads of good fats which you'll find hard to get from other foods. Plus there's around 8 grams of fibre per 100 grams.

Another note, you should try and aim for about 30 grams of fibre, it's easier than you think. Try and get a fibre supplement too!

Thanks for all the advice man. I found this, it might interest you for recipes and whatnot. Keto Menu

One thing is i dont think i could survive a week without carbs. I train six sessions a week in IP and i would die without some sort of carbs. Can i still achieve ketosis this way or do i need to take a week off training to get ketosis and then get in to TKD and training.

    Mon: Jits 2.5hrs -moderate workout
Tue: Strength session 1 hr and MMA class 1.5hrs -tough workout
Wed: Conditioning session 1hr20mins and Thai 1.5hrs -tough
    Thurs: Jits 2.5hrs -moderate
    Fri: Strength -moderate
Sat: Team conditioning and sparring -hardest session of the week
    Sunday- rest

I know i cant do this without carbs because i have been gassing easily lately and have been abit lacklustre but when i take some carbs i perform alot better. Another reason is because my weight has dropped from 132 last November to 112 on Monday but my skinfolds say i am still carrying alot of fat so that why i am using this diet (plus i want to make pullups easier)

I really wouldn't have to change my diet much to go for Ketosis.

    Typical day currently;
Breakfast: eggs, maybe with tomatos or onions, or oats
    Lunch:Tuna and tomato soup
    Dinner:Chicken/pork with sweetcorn/brocoli & gravy

All I have to do is drop the oats for breakfast, maybe the soup for lunch. and that should do it.

The only thing is, how does alcohol fit in?
I'm drink at the weekends, would this prevent Ketosis setting in?

The only drinks completely devoid of carbs will be unsweetened spirits (some whiskeys do have sugar added). Pilsner & "lite" beers and dry wines have most of the sugars fermented out.

Heineken has 17.6 grams per pint, coors has 6.8g/pint
    http://www.heinekenireland.com/pages/article.aspx?contentcode=NUTRITION

Diet mixers also increase your alcohol absorption rate so you get drunk on less. So if anybody claims you're a nancyboy for having diet coke the reply is they can't handle the diet mixers.

Those AWOL machines sound mad - but I don't really see the point of trying to get drunk without the social aspect :/
Anyone ever tried one of them?

I saw them used in clubs in pictures online. It would be a gimmick like those oxygen bars, or laughing gas balloons which are in clubs in amsterdam. I have not used that particular one but have inhaled alcohol vapours (accidentally-long story!) and I was well pissed on them, but a strange type of drunkeness.

On a program on BBC a week or so ago a guy was getting alcohol injected by doctors who were measuring its effects.

I know hospital technicians who used medical nebulisers to inhale brandy before hitting the pub on a friday. A nebuliser is the same idea as a AWOL machine, it produces a mist of a liquid drug for asthmatics or to introduce water vapour to patients getting oxygen.

Hmm....So that's why its so hard to get your hands on one of them. I remember when I used to think doctors and people with degrees were smart :pac:

Ah sure I've been out drinking with doctors before - crowd of lushes! I know of a few who used to hook up an IV of fluids after they got in from the pub to prevent a hangover!
