There’s good news for indie fans as Michelle Doherty returns to our tellies on Tuesday nights with When Under Ether, a new RTE One series that’s going out at 11.50pm and finds her joined on screen by former Brando man Elton Mullally who co-produced her old Channel 6 show.

Delorentos and David Geraghty feature as live guests, with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The XX and Grizzly Bear providing the video accompaniment.

Sounds like this could be the replacement we are looking for.

    Bring back Nightshift.
    Artic Monkeys get enough coverage.

    Give homegrown acts a chance.

Give the job to someone other than Doherty. She's a drag on phantom and i can't imagine her being better on Tv. This looks like mtv2 lite to me.

If anyone deserves an music show on irish Tv it's Donal Dineen.

yes he does but all music shows are welcome to be honest so no point complaining about it when there is currently nothing else

Dineen had a great show alright - not sure if he's too interested in going back on TV though. And let's face it RTE are always going to plum for a younger presenter for something like this aren't they?

I thought Doherty was decent on the Nightshift. When she doesn't have to fill time like on the radio then I think she's better.

I'm not the biggest Michelle Doherty fan, but the content of the show sounds right up my street. I'm usually in bed by that time but I'll be sure to watch it on the RTE Player. Yay!

TYpical RTE, putting something like this on at 11.50 on a Tuesday night, where no-body is going to see it.
Looks alright though, be good if they also promoted the up and coming Irish acts too.

Rte will never be good at promoting irish music and thats that.

true but the more people that watch it the earlier the time will be. similar to other voices. rte are lazy and uncreative but they are not stupid (well..)

i want to see the quality irish acts ONLY rather than loads of Irish acts and diluting the whole thing. Look at Jools Holland. England a country of 80, 90 million with fantastica history of music but he only has about 2 english acts on per episode keeping the standards up as high as possible

I see what you mean, there just seems to be very few outlets for up and coming Irish bands on our national TV and Radio network, fair enough Jules Holland does have a mix of acts from various countries, however, the BBC have several other shows across their network which promote home-grown talent.

yep but we are a country of only 4.5m and they have closer to about 100m including all of britain. the same old irish crap keeps getting played on shows completely turning people off of shows. the same bands keep touring cork, dublin, galway, limerick etc so who wants to see the majority of them on tv?

dont get me wrong there are some really hard working bands in this country who constantly tour to hone their art and setlist etc but just because you tour does not mean you should be up on tv. acts such as RSAG and Imelda May stick out as they have something different. no point in sticking bands on just for the sake of them being irish. get a quality show going first. get the numbers. move it to a better time and then start a show for local talent and put that on at the later time.

although i dont care much for pop i cannot believe there isnt even a proper chart show left on tv

It's a PJ Harvey song so I suppose they're attempting to signal their intended musical direction with the title.

Like the Delorentos? Or the Coronas?
My point is these bands are not the Be all and end all of Irish music, there some quality Irish acts out there who should get some national air-play on a show like this - I wouldn't be bored of a show that featured (not necessarily dedicated to)some different bans, the Likes of Cities!, Hooray For Humans, Fred, Adebisi shank,Rest, AWIWYFA, etc

and you are dead right but what i am saying is that do you think ireland has enough quality acts to have 3/4 per week for a few months without getting boring?

imagine an act like Fred playing on a show with Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear etc and holding their own etc. rather than simply being the best Irish band on the show. not only would their music be highlighted to the other record companies/bands etc but they would simply get to mix with some quality international acts

due to the lack of awareness of this upcoming show I have set up a facebook group for people to join to spread the word and remind people when the show is on to keep the show on the air

even if it is half decent keeping it on air will at least give it the chance to improve

Yeah they'll continue to support derivative, dull, musically ambitionless acts like delorentos and coronas.

maybe but viewers have to keep the show on air to let it evolve in some way. i would rather an average music show on air than no music show

The 11th Hour is still on the air. They feature a live performance of an Irish act a week. Some good, some bad.

Delorentos are great! I'm glad they're showing irish bands like Delos, who work hard touring the arse out of the country and putting their music out there.
