From a song about a loss of a pregnancy....

Google "When Under Ether" and it will appear in various lines of books, poems, medical journals. The phrase has a nice ring to it and that is why it was chosen as well as being a link to Michelle Doherty's favourite artist for a music show

Is it coming back again this year does anyone know?

None of this is a real or just explaination for naming a show after a song about something like that nor taken together makes any sense. It is Alan Partridge "Sunday, Bloody, Sunday" levels of vapid.

Are you also sickened by the name of the band Joy Division?

I don't think that example is in any way similar and you obviously do not agree so I am stepping out of this one :)

You are the first person i know to get annoyed about it to be honest.

When Under Ether, is to do with situationism now? Wut

You dont think it is in any way similar yet you offer no real reason as to why? But the selection of name seemed to been taken for a vapid reason.

    Who cares?

If you like the show you can get past a name that isn't great.

I like Smashing Pumpkins despite them having an absolutely stupid name.

So you have no real answer then.

I think I clearly previously made the case it goes on beyond it simply being stupid, in fairness. It shows a lack of understanding of the music you are claiming to represent, essentially showing a lack of cred when the show is so desperately striving for Indie cred. I liked the show and hope it returns but the choice of the name of the show is a symbol of the poserish tendencies it had.

Are you someone who rings up RTE with these complaints????

"When", "Under", "Ether", are three separate words that have been used because :

    a. They roll off the tongue nicely

    b. They reference Michelle Doherty's favourite artist

Even in the context of the song these words are not "Vapid" or "distasteful". Words are just words and can mean anything in/out of context. If they offend you so easily you will quickly run out of useable words.

The next stupid annoying comment about the name of this show is getting a very long ban.

Any form of reply to this post will also possibly result in a ban

And this post is mainly directed at you rovert.

Last time i was speaking to Elton about the show they were hoping that they would be getting a second series so they are all up for it but its now down to the folks at RTE i guess.

I hope it does come back, thought it was a great show. Elton really know his stuff about music and its a breath of fresh air

I really enjoyed it too. Severely flawed as regards layout and stuff but the key is they were playing good music on a national station which is the main thing but this is to be expected with a pre-recorded pilot of only 6 episodes. A good music show should be given the time to evolve and find their feet. Make the show a bit more lively with improved interviews, guests, live performances etc and it will be a big winner. I loved it anyway :)

Yeah they were playing some really good music on the show and they were giving Irish acts some TV exposure too which was great cos there is very little chance to get local bands on tv but hopefully the show will come back cos its the closest thing to the No Disco show that we have

Build a bridge. Get over it!

Hopefully we will see it return for a second season. Serious lack of good music shows on the tv currently.

For anyone that is interested, there is an alternative music show on TG4 I caught last night called Ceol Ar an Imeall. They had an pretty decent interview with the "next big thing" band The XX. Not sure but I imagine it is a weekly show late on Thursday nights.

It is a weekly thing, quite decent generally.

Heh, sorry! :o I do remember No Disco being on TV but it wasn't at a time when I was into music. It ended in 2003 according to Wikipedia, so I would have been 13 when it ended. It was another couple of years before I really started getting into music.

Anyway, glad to see that Under Ether (the When has been removed for some reason) has been commissioned for a second season. It's in the Autumn 2010 schedule on the rte website.

Back since the start of the month. I think all the episodes are still on the RTE Player.
