Sick of having to ask at the deli counter if the coleslaw is rancid raw onion free?

Sick of peering through or having sneaky sniffs of salad bowls only to find everything has been tarnished by the most evil of red onions?

Ever asked for gravy, only to find its littered with chunks of the vulgarity?

Ever ordered a chinese only to find it is 70% onion, 20% meat and 10% peppers/random other vegetable?

If so then join with me.

Also I have some seriously tasty recipes for dinners that require NO ONIONS.
PM's if you want them :D

Are onions the actual root of all evil? 21 votes

Onions are amazing, and an essential ingredient of cooking.

I can't imagine fajitas without onions
I can't imagine burgers without onions
I can't imagine life without onions

Seriously, they're there to bring out the flavours of everything else.

Oh, and food & drink forum -->

Meat is a flexible description. MRM: Mechanically recovered meat - read up on that and you won't touch processed 'meat' for a while and you'll be happyy to eat real vegetables like onions!

    Aw Man!!!!

You cannot live without the onion

    • Cheese and onion crisps would become just cheese
    • Liver and onions would be just Liver
    • Onion gravy would be just boring ol' gravy

    I could go on but............

FU, onions are lovely, they go on everything. I adore cooking with onions.

I should make a pro-onion thread in retaliation.

Move it to whatever forum is needed, I figured it was more general tbh.

    Anyway, damn you all!

Gordon - have you never heard of onion gravy? I have certainly been confronted by the abomination at several incidents.

nb - I eat pretty much all other vegetables, just bar the onion.

ONIONS LOVERS BE GONE FROM MINE THREAD!

Cooking without onions would be like Laurel without Hardy.

This I have to whole-heartedly disagree with.
I never cook with them. Lots of garlic, vegetables and spices or herbs are more than enough!

This thread brings a tear to my eye.
    Onions rule my world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,572 ✭✭✭✭brummytom

My only problem with onions was my eyes badly watering when I cut them; I learnt a great tip a few weeks ago.. anyone else not heard of it?

Peel the onion, chop into quarters, as you would an apple.
Stick it in the food processor (with the blade attachment in) for about 30 seconds, it'll come out finely chopped. It's great

Gotta agree with you OP, onions are ****ing everywhere. WTF?? Does every dish need onions? My ****ing ice-cream, does it really need onions? And you know what, I dont even mind a little onion, but every ****ing meal has these gigantic pieces of onion. And thats not the worst part, its the onion that stinks and looks like greasy slugs sliced up. Really manky, I would prefer to eat sliced greasy slugs because at least it is technically meat. I dont mind a sensible amount of onion, its the fact that it is in every meal in large amounts. In fact, I sometimes wonder if every meal I eat is just onion!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

All the time. It is frequently ignored.
Thats my point in my other err points though that you constantly have to check as it something that people seem to lash into everything and assume everyone likes it. which isnt so bad with cooked onion but even the smell of raw onion makes me wretch!

I think I'll go up to the kitchen right now and try it, if it works out well I will make an onion sandwich out of it ;)

I wholeheartedly agree with you OP, onions are VILE VILE VILE
I hate having to ask if there are onions in whatever i am ordering but you can't take the chance not saying. People put onions in the best of things and RUIN them. Even when you pick the onions out you can still get that VILE taste.
Onions don't 'bring the flavour out' in dishes, they just 'put the flavour of onions in' dishes.
There are prefect lovely dishes without onions needed :D
