No, they progress to this from the bottom to the top, and Cannabis is

I know a couple of lads you've dealt for years, been caught doing that, had fist fights with cops in the street and lots of fighting in general, been infront of a judge at least 3 times that I can remember and the last time they where finally sentenced to a week (well it was more than a week but that's what they served). Came out of prison dealing on the phone as they where walking out the door.

Yeah i know 3 people who;ve had over €20,000 worth of drugs (cocaine/ ecstasy). Highest one guy had was €80,000. None of these people went to jail. Obviously there is more to this case than is printed in the metro. Judges also like to see a sense of remorse for the crime either genuine or not. Him mocking the court with "hobby" rubbish may have pushed the judge in the other direction.

Yes, and this is a travesty. But, does that mean that just because lenient sentences have been handed down ion the past, that it should always remain like that?

So, I could go and dissect your post, but it's probably a waste of time.

Now, could you elaborate on WHY: "no idea whatsoever what you are talking about"

Read over the british scientist sacked thread and now this one, so much nonsense that could only be spoken by the ignorant or a troll. A weed grower now has victims? Snaring? Are we talking about heroin or weed, because i don't think you know the difference, hence "the no idea whatsoever what you are talking about". Your head in sand illegal vs legal world is black and white view is the road taken by people who cant think for themselves.

A weed grower in Ireland is a criminal. That's the law. Now, that weed that is grown MAY well end up being sold to children, adults, whatever. Now, that is the possible start of the misery that the illegal drugs trade has caused in this country.

I think you need to do some research before jumping in with your aggressive attitude.

Kids do not begin a life on drugs by immediately heading to Heroin or Cocaine.
At least not in the majority of instances.

Usually it's ciggies, alcohol and then to ILLEGAL cannabis and E and on an on and on.

I am not saying that the man caught growing Cannabis should be treated identical to the man selling Heroin. I never said that. The man selling Heroin deserves LIFE. But, the guys pedalling or selling or growing Cannabis, that can and does end up on the streets, also deserves to be dealt with

LOL the gateway arguement. Do you think drug addicts start smoking weed first or drinking alcohol/smoking cigarettes?

Robbo, exactly what I was thinking. The report makes it out that all was easy going and rosy and all that. He's a drug dealer and I don't give a flying **** what sentences have been handed down in the past, it's high time we got serious on drug dealers in this country.
This isn't the solution at all. People are always going to want drugs; it may be hard for you to comprehend but free will exists and people’s attitudes aren’t going to change. By adopting your approach you’re just making the illegal drugs trade more lucrative, so the people who profit are the smarter, more ruthless criminals and criminal gangs.

    Oh and the exchequer.

I mean this guy is obviously only going to move on to selling heroin and crystal meth if he gets off with this...lock him up and throw away the key.

Meanwhile leave drunken bastards that kick people repeatedly in the head for fun to the probation services and meaningless fines..."shure it's not in his character your honour...there was afair bit of drink taken...my client comes from a good home and has changed his ways".

    F*cking country's a joke...

Hey, express himself how he wants, but that doesn't mean that a judge cannot then
be insulted and be more severe. That's the risk one takes when one tries to get
lippy or out of hand with judges

That's not really a fair analogy. Everyone knows the system gets it wrong many times, but when it gets it right, then why are we complaining. I hate hearing of pissy sentences handed down for bad crimes. It really irks me. He received a fair sentence. He was caught growing illegal drugs. It's drugs we're talking about. Now, the drug may not have been Class A, but isn't that why the sentence was only three years. Had it been Heroin, maybe it could have been ten years.

The law, seriously use your brain for a moment. Weed may end up being sold to children and they end up heroin riddled junkies, still with the gateway argument, does anyone besides you still use that.
I think you need to do some research before jumping in with your aggressive attitude.

Kids do not begin a life on drugs by immediately heading to Heroin or Cocaine.

No they start off drinking naggins of vodka in the streets in their early teens. So by your reasoning alcohol is the number 1 gateway drug in this country.
Usually it's ciggies, alcohol and then to ILLEGAL cannabis and E and on an on and on.

Why does it matter the legality? The effects of alcohol are far stronger than weed, if somebody is wanting to get ****ed up with their destructive personality, what drug do you think they would choose?

Dealt with how? a guy growing a bit of weed sentenced to 3 years seems reasonable to you?

I agree, I had my first splif at 14, I was a rent boy by 16 sucking off auld fells on bagget street bridge for herion, I eventually started dealing cocaine and that's when my life changed for the better, suddenly I was making more money than ever and could finally stop turning dirty tricks for pennys.
Now i've become pretty successfull at it and am able to take care of my ma who lives all alone.
Your right cannibas is a gateway drug, without it I would never have found cocaine and had the opportunity to turn my life around.

I would be complelty against legalisation of drugs of any kind, i'm an active member of the vitners assocation and hope people like yourself keep the fight alive so I can continue to enjoy my comfortable lifestyle.

Thanks again it really is great to see someone campaign on behalf of me and all the other drug dealers, the longer you keep it illegal the longer we stay in business.

Okay, what do you think should have happened to a guy caught growing illegal drugs in Ireland?

Bear in mind, that in other countries, the sentence would have been stiffer!

And also, you seem to keep forgetting that alcohol is currently a LEGAL drug that
is monitored and regulated in Ireland.

And for the record, I also happen to think that any person caught selling alcohol&cigs to
under age kids deserves to be dealt with harshly. See, I have covered the areas

Why keep bringing in alcohol to the debate. This is Cannabis that the man was caught with

Not really. I smoked more at home than I do here. I have some nice stuff in a box that I keep for visitors so they won't buy that white widow s***e that everyone gets because it's the only one they know the name of. Even when my eyes are popping out with stress it never even crosses my mind to smoke it.

Older people here aren't generally users. It's more common among the scobies and teenagers while the 25's to 35's on the party scene prefer E or cocaine. While they might not progress to heroin there is definitely a progression. Very difficult to meet decent people here imo, because if you meet them in work they're different after work and if you meet them at night, they're different during the day. Be it smoke, swallow or snort.

It's simple. The current law says that the sale and distribution and possession of Cannabis is illegal here in Ireland. Should you breach the law, expect to be possibly jailed.
    It's not rocket science

Why isn't it? I know several people that have been the victim of assaults, some of them serious, that have left some of those people a shadow of their former selves in terms of going out socialising, enjoying a night on the town etc....and the few of those cases that even made it to court, drink was used as an extenuating circumstance in the commision of the assault and sentences like 3 months, large fines or more often than not suspended sentences/ peace bonds were the method of punishment.

I don't care what your stance is on illegal drugs but please don't try and tell me or anyone else that commmon assault and A/G BH is a less damaging crime than growing/preparing/smoking a few plants.

As for your point on heroin....if it was heroin he'd have been growing opium poppies...and ironically that's not illegal (at least it isn't in the UK). If he was selling heroin (or meth or coke or E's for that matter) I'd have no problem with his sentence...in fact if he was prooved to be consistently selling his produce in large amounts and/or to kids, I'd have said lock him up too....but as it stands, it's just bullsh*t to send some sort of "message".
It sends a message alright...that the law is an ass, as are most of those who preside over it.

Cannabis growing is a common pursuit in many countries. However in holland it is considered a hobby thanks to lenient legal penalties. Dutch home growers have none of the paranoia generally displayed by growers in other countries. Commercial growers on the other hand must be security conscious but that is more a precaution against others stealing a valuable crop.

Dave, no need to be so aggressive. It's just a debate. Look, you and I will not agree here, as you think the drug should be legalised. So, we are only going around in circles.

BTW, I clearly said that I also believe that the illegal selling of alcohol and cigs to minors deserves to be punished. So, it's not simply a case of me being PRO Alcohol and anti Cannabis. I just happen to think that Cannabis should be an illegal drug here in Ireland. I also think Cocaine and Heroin should be illegal.

If the govt asked me which of the three to make legal, I would say Cannabis, IF I had to.

No they start on the legal drugs, alcohol and tobacco both of which do set a trend of addiction (most tobacco though) which will follow them throughout their lifes.

No, they progress to this from the bottom to the top, and Cannabis is

But alcohol and tobacco is at the root of that chain. If the chain is really only people getting high from ingesting something then it probably starts as a child when they get their first sugar rush.

Same can easily be said about alcohol and tobacco but at least those drugs are controlled and harder for a child to purchase than any other drug would be.

I don't care what the law says about cannabis any more, the law is an ass and it's wrong so I'm not going to abide by it any more. Saying "it's the law" means nothing when it comes to the right and wrong of something.
