    The one with the beard

Apparently a senior Muslim in UK thinks the muslim flag will be flying from the top of buckingham palace in 10 years .

Wonder what odds paddy power will give on that ?

The guys saying that are actually a small group, that give themselves nice titles, and some dodgy tabloids in the UK take them way too seriously.

The day muslims have any sort of hold in ireland will be the day I leave the country.
Though I highly doubt it will ever happen.

Couldn't be any worse than when the Catholic Church ran the country I guess.

It was that lunatic Sanjeev Choudhary who said that about the 'black flag of Islam flying over Downing Street'.

He is the nutjob who had some troubles being admitted to Ireland under hatred laws when he came to give a talk in Trinity a few years ago.

He has been remarkably quiet recently. He got into some trouble with Social Welfare (he despises the UK state but lives on benefits - a measure of the mans hypocricy) as he was always appearing on television and giving talks at demonstrations, conventions etc. but was supposedly available for and actively seeking work.

Basically, he was very loud and agressive Islamic fundamentalist until somebody threatened to cut his dole.

    Then he went all quiet.

The only thing more depressing than the fact that a newspaper ran it is the fact that people are seriously debating it. We are still turning up to see Mary dancing in the sky (funny how she only appears on Saturday's) above swarms of trinket selling zealots - methinks we are 'safe' from the Muslims for now.

Why? Going by the "Saudi" thread, you seem easy enough with the extreme form of Sharia.....

That was Dustin Hoffman and, if I recall correctly his only problem with Britain was with Wendy and Peter (aristocratics stop-outs)

I always find it funny, that the most nutty extremists, are unemployed. I guess they have nothing better to do with there time, but cause trouble.

Don't be so sure they won't became majority. It rains a lot here and if they get wet they multiply. And if they eat after midnight durin ramadan they....no wait, that's not the muslims.

Yes, but the nature or Muslim immigration to Ireland is very different to that in Holland, Germany or the United Kingdom.

In those cases, it was the 'gastarbeiter' phenomenon of the 60s and 70s that drove immigration. Consequently, the Muslims were most working-class manual labourers - who are always marginalised of any religion or none.

Muslim immigration to Ireland is a more recent phenomenon, only starting during the 'Celtic Tiger' years, and the migrants have tended to be professionals, university students etc.

As I understand it, Muslims already form a majority of the under 25-s in many urban areas of Holland. I don't know what the demographic predictions are.

That's not really true though, many of the Muslims in Ireland have been there for a really long time. There was a mosque in the estate around the corner from me when I was growing up in the 80's and there is a shop in another area that has been run by a Muslim family for the last twenty years, the only people able to keep it open for longer than two years under the same ownership aswell. Can't factually comment on Dublin but they also have a few long term Muslim residents aswell, who run shops and takeaways etc. All working class. Agreed we have lots of students and professionals and they're not of the same type as Holland but you can´t say they only came during the Celtic Tiger years- this is completely untrue. Perhaps that's why we get on with them so well, they were here before the boom.

Muslims will never be a majority in Ireland. To think otherwise is paranoid xenophobic nonsense.

I am sure the Muslims in Spain said the same about the Christians

Muslims wont settle here. Weathers shyte.

Yes there are a few here now and have been for a long time, but they're just here for the ice cream.

They certainly were but Spain was not the way it is now.

Anyway Muslims have been here a long time with long well established communities. I am pretty sure the European centre for Muslims studies is here.

I don't believe that any religious doctrine should dictate to a society. It was a sad day in this country when the blasphemy laws were passed.

Except that it is not fine to have parallel legal systems. For example, how can we be sure that both parties 'agree' - especially if, say, it is a divorce case under Sharia where one party, by definition, will be female.

How can you be sure that the rights of the individuals, as defined by state law, are fully respected where the concept of 'rights' under Sharia is different.

Also, more serious crimes are sometimes dealt with by informal courts (for instance among Somalis in the UK) including assault and sexual crimes.

Anyway, it will be a long time before Ireland has a Muslim majority.

However, you don't have to be a scaremonger or a conspiracy theorist to see that Muslim numbers are rising dramatically in some EU countries and will eventually form a majority. Holland will probably be the first with a Muslim majority - quite ironic given it's liberal tradition.

Theres yer problem, and with liberal attitudes to immigration and neo-feminism causing the European caucasian race to die because of Birth Control pills and this attitude that having children is evil will lead to a Muslim majority. Ireland thankfully has the highest birth rate in the EU but even we are not renewing ourselves

    .

I'm really not that surprised by this. If the majority population is Muslim of course they will want the State to represent Islamic principles.

It would be a catastrophe if that ever happens, thats the motive of alot of extremist muslims(There are alot more than you may think). They have alot of children so that the amount of muslims grow and somehow take over the country.

Sharia Law.... No way in hell

And to the guy who came up with this well thought post
Couldn't be any worse than when the Catholic Church ran the country I guess.

You obviously do not know what sharia law is.
