    No news yet anyway.
Ya, Army have only done blood tests so far and no-one has been called for medical yet, that i know about. Was kind of expecting there to be word today though!
They'll probably give the offers together in the middle of november?

Speaking in the Dail, the minster for Defence said
"It is planned that offers will be issued to the successful candidates on the 16 November 2009. Cadet training is planned to commence before the end of the year.

There's several different numbers I've heard for the amount of candidates called to the medical - 40, 50 and now 60!

Best of luck to all still involved.

Got word there now folks so get checking your emails straight away, got called to the medical next tuesday, there has been 60 people called but i have no idea where i place on the panel so could just be on reserve. Best of luck everyone.

Is that just for the army of has anyone heard anything about the navy?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12 d49ma

If you went for the navy CK, you did your medical already bar the x-ray which i believe is only given to 15 , i think 3 as back up so that if anyone dropped out of the first 12 but I doubt these will be announced untill next week.

I wouldnt be nervous, have ye done yere medicals yet? If ye have ye wont get an offer until the army offers are given out. Did ye get rankings or anything?

Just say 25 people go for medicals and they are taking in 10 people, they number ye 1 to 25 with the people numbered 1 to 10 on the end panel unless they fail the medical, then if one of them fails number 11 slots into the panel and so on.

That used to be the case with the air corps anyway, i was number 6 on the panel in 2002 but they only took in 4 people and all everybody passed the medical so they didnt need to use any the subs

No they didnt give us rankings I was just told we wouldnt find out until the 1st or 2nd week of November

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭CK1Champ

Yeh same as myself d...go to bed thinking and praying and wake up the same way!!I was told we'd find out the 16th but suppose we'd have to have our ex rays done...m kinda thinking they'll be next week if the offers are to go out the week after!

Thanks hoppy - was pretty gutted when I saw it to be honest. Sure hopefully the reserves will start taking people in again soon and I'll go for that, will be better then just moping around feeling sorry for myself :)

I know i've been there many times, your stomach just sinks when you read it, i was fully expecting to not get through myself, even when i saw the email in my inbox I had that sinking feeling but was pleasantly surprised for once. There will hopefully be another competition in February (thats when they usually start), so we can start all over again....vicious circle!!

In all honesty, there's quite a few Officers serving that didn't get their Cadetship first time around. It's a difficult competition and is made harder by the fact there's not lots you can do to prepare first time around.

Hopefully you'll make it into the Reserves and will give you a better idea of what the DF does and it will also get you an extra few percent on your final score for a Cadetship. Take the time to just keep training, researching leadership qualities etc. and trust me, you'll get it.

Now you know what the application process is about, think about where you could have done better and work on improving it. As long as you want it, you'll eventually make it.
