Practice in your bedroom in front of mirror ;)

No don't practice in front of a mirror, then you'll no what you look like. Ignorance is bliss. :)

We're white, none of us can dance. Just jump around the place flailing your arms wildly, its what everyone does...

I appreciate all of the YouTube videos ... but this is actually kind of a serious problem.

Dont mean to drag you guys down!

but really... I kind of have social anxiety (It's real and I cant quite explain it.anyone who has it will know it's hell) so dancing is like everest .

Can't believe no one has suggested this yet: TAKE HUGS!

Get drunk. You'll find you have this amazing dancing ability you never knew you had before. Helps if everyone else is drunk too.

You'll find most people doing this in a club in a few weeks. Watch it. Study it. DO IT.

Here's an extra thing to take into consideration and learn.

There's nothing funnier than a guy who can't dance :D

If it's indie/alternative music you're dancing to, just shuffle around, look slightly bored and like you've somewhere better to be.

Listen little dude, don't mind your wan above..... Wimmen look silly also.....

Best thing to do is not go over board and relax. Have a beer or two and go with the music. I can't dance to save my life but went to many a club had a few drinks and moved to the music as they say.

Anything which is not all arms and legs bumping into each other and you'll be grand. Sure the ladies do that also which is funny.

Enjoy yourself and don't mind anyone else!

What I used to do when I first start going to discos was basically copied everyone else around me, felt like a complete and utter eejit the first maybe 3/4 times but then you begin to get more used to it. Love it now nothing beats dancing:)

But if you want to be specific I think that keeping your feet moving slightly all the time and bopping a bit then throwing in a few moves of the hands every now and then wont do you any harm, nobody will be looking out for what you do either so dont worry! I'm sure after the first few times you'll begin to like it more and more, best of luck!

    hey OP,
i remember my first trip to a nightclub, was bricking it because i couldnt dance...but when i got there i saw everyone was crap so it was all good. you cant dance when you're wasted:)

just dont over analyze it and try not to worry too much about it, it's not a big deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭Stevecw

Just keep drinking until you think you are best dancer in the club!

Then go bust them moves which to you will of course seem amazing, but to anyone watching will be just a hammered guy doing his best to stay standing albeit in a weird kinda way!

But of course the ladies love it, so do that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,731 ✭✭✭✭entropi

OP, the best thing you can do is just observe some people dancing, copy some of their moves...watch people like Justin Timberlake or whoever you place skill with in dancing and give it a shot in the club:)

Nobody really cares if you are a good dancer, well the lads wont but some ladies would love a good dancer.

Don't sweat it OP, alot of people would say this kid can't dance and look what he accomplishes.

It's all about not giving a crap what other people think and just having fun.

You’ve already got a girlfriend man so it doesn’t matter how bad a dancer you are. Just enjoy it and don’t worry about how you look.;)

If you actually watch people dancing most people cant dance all that well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

most people in nightclubs are crap dancers by actual dance standards!

just relax and enjoy yourself, go with the music..... if you can stop yourself worrying what other people think then you will have no trouble!

in fact you will probably be pissing yourself when you see some of the other people on the dancefloor making tools of themselves!

but hey its what your there for since your gonna be saddled with the ball and chain

and if you get really stuck, deffo go with that vid that the local womaniser posted, quality moves in that!

    Hey Guys

I'll be going to my first night club when I go eighteen in a few weeks...and obviously I'll have to dance.

My girlfriend has been going since she was sixteen and is pretty good at dancing etc and knows to to act etc in a night club... I'm a complete novice.

I've danced a few time like at wedding and house partys. I SUCK! the worse thing is that I know I suck - if I didnt I could just dance and wouldnt give a ****.

But I get an awful feeling when I dance (even for a few seconds). It's like my stomach tightens up...like the feeling you get when your ringtons is 'Staying Alive' and it goes off at a funeral...awful...I end up either looking really stiff or like my grand dad busting out the moves straight from 1945 when the war ended!

    Please help...any advice
I've read loads of thing on the net about 'going with the flow' etc but I dont even know what the hell the flow IS!!

    Thanks!!

Awww. This is the sweetest post I've ever seen on boards. I want to ruffle your hair and give you a lollipop*!

    *Lollipop not a metaphor
