How to dance at a night club?!

    Hey Guys

I'll be going to my first night club when I go eighteen in a few weeks...and obviously I'll have to dance.

My girlfriend has been going since she was sixteen and is pretty good at dancing etc and knows to to act etc in a night club... I'm a complete novice.

I've danced a few time like at wedding and house partys. I SUCK! the worse thing is that I know I suck - if I didnt I could just dance and wouldnt give a ****.

But I get an awful feeling when I dance (even for a few seconds). It's like my stomach tightens up...like the feeling you get when your ringtons is 'Staying Alive' and it goes off at a funeral...awful...I end up either looking really stiff or like my grand dad busting out the moves straight from 1945 when the war ended!

    Please help...any advice
I've read loads of thing on the net about 'going with the flow' etc but I dont even know what the hell the flow IS!!

    Thanks!!

    Just..move..to the music ;)
No one is going to be looking at you.

Ever nod your head to music ? That..except with your whole body.

Stand by the air conditioning and sway.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Go this weekend undercover, pretending to be a person 18 or more. That way, you can see 'how to act' etc , and they will never know it was you mwahahahaha.

You'll find most people doing this in a club in a few weeks. Watch it. Study it. DO IT.

You just bounce up and down if you got nothing else to do, probably put one hand up in the air, or if you're crazy two hands. You might feel uncomfortable, but rest assured, while you might feel like an idiot and not enjoy it, you're fitting right in. Anyway, you get used to it after a while.

OP if you want to know how to dance properly at a nightclub you should do what these guys did:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

There's nothing funnier than a guy who can't dance :D

If it's indie/alternative music you're dancing to, just shuffle around, look slightly bored and like you've somewhere better to be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,062 ✭✭✭DancingQueen:)

Just go with the music :) It'll be akward for the first few minutes but you'll get used to it. Don't worry what anyone says they won't be looking at you anyway! And if you look around i'm sure the majority of the dance floor will be in the same position. Have fun ;)

If there is a hell, it's in a nightclub.

I appreciate all of the YouTube videos ... but this is actually kind of a serious problem.

Dont mean to drag you guys down!

but really... I kind of have social anxiety (It's real and I cant quite explain it.anyone who has it will know it's hell) so dancing is like everest .

you could always join a dancing class.
confidence will go a lot further on the dancefloor than technique but if you get confidence from learning some techniques ,so be it.
going with the flow means not allowing your fear of dancing to get in the way of your enjoyment, just groove.

About 5 shots of aftershock black will have that fear out of you in no time. :D

Just because you're in a nightclub doesn't mean you have to dance.

Ninety percent of my mates are incapable of dancing. But sure who gives a damn, we still do it. ;) Just stop over thinking the situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,062 ✭✭✭DancingQueen:)

Just kind of step from foot to foot to the music or jump a lot. I can't really explain it but just follow the music. It sounds weird but practise. Dance around your room or something it helps and its fun ( and hopefully will make you less self-concious) but make sure the curtains are down!

I know... I'll probably only dance for a while. My GF is dying to get me dancing with her because she loves it... I used my age as an excuse for not going till now ;)

Ah come on. Seriously. No-one will be looking at you dance bar your girlfirend but i'm sure she won't care how you dance.

    You guys are the shiz!

Any more tips ... technique would be good in terms of tips like the whole 'pretend you have two coins on your shoulders'.

Then I can practice to get over the self confidence!

Seriously OP there is no way you can not look silly on the dancefloor without proper training. Unless you're the next Micheal Flatley, or have expierence, the only thing you can do if either 1)Fake an injury, or 2)Just do your best and try copying what other people are doing on the dance floor. Your best bit is to get a pint or two in you first so that you'll at least have a bit of confidence.

Just move your body, others wont care what you dance like once you're there. You'll have a laugh anyways. You're overthinking it.
