It is a difficult process to go through, but I do think it'll all be worth it :)

It is worth it! I don't regret having braces at all, I'm so glad I went through all of that and the day you get your braces off will be such a happy one! :)

I still eat gummies. I can't eat any other sort of junk food because of allergies, so feck it! My orthodontist can take away my attractiveness , but he'll never take away my Haribo!
    :D

    I'm not for eating

I said yes but that’s because I’m 29 and the thought of finding girls with braces attractive is a bit disturbing to me.

Lots of women in their 20s have braces though. It's not just teenage girls anymore!

Yeah I've noticed that too... I would have thought they'd work better when you're still growing (i.e. adolescence) ? :/

Teeth seem equally susceptible to bending to the will of a mad orthodontist at any age. Sure they only slap them on once your teeth are fully grown and have stopped moving by themselves.

I had an "experience"*cough cough* with a girl who had braces before and it was scary and great at the same time. So braces don't bother me at all.

I think the reason is because a lot of people didn't have the money to get things like braces when they were kids, teenagers. Braces are actually an investment, for a lot of people. Mine cost about 4,000 euro.
Some people can only afford to get them when they're in their 20s or 30s and in the work force.

My dad took me to a dentist about my teeth when I was nine. I was on a waiting list for almost five years, to get seen by a public orthodontist.
When I went to see him, he looked in my mouth and said "Yes, she'll need braces."
"Great, when can you put them on?"
"I'll put her on a waiting list. She'll get them when she's eighteen or nineteen."
We decided to go privately then, because it was too long to wait, even thought the treatment would have been free.
The Irish healthcare system is severely behind international standards, on so many levels!

Was just having a chat with a (girl) mate about braces, she said she didn't think it would make a lad look any worse; but I said that I'd be less likely to find a girl with braces attractive than if she didn't have them.

As always, I turn to the good people of AH for your opinions.
Do braces make people look less attractive?

    Yes.

But that said I wore them for THREE YEARS!!! ugh :(
I was still a lash tho

Mine too mostly, with the NHS as well. Would have kept getting them free, but my dad forgot his passport when we were flying over for treatment and they sussed something was up when we rang from an Irish number to cancel :pac:

Still worked out cheaper and quicker to get them finished privately in the North though.

I absolutely hate my teeth. They are too crowded. I have these ridiculous fangs. But people seem to say they suit my face, which I don't get at all, but whatever. I wish I could've got braces when I was younger but we just couldn't afford them. They cost a bloody fortune! Still might consider them in the future. Meh. And I know I few people who look great with braces. Some people can really rock 'em.

Braces are often associated with teenagers, but in recent times, it's becoming increasingly more popular - and 'normal' for older people to have them.

I know a few women who've had them for a year or two, before they got married. Few of my teachers in school had them.

Very few older men have them though, from what I've seen. It's much more common for older women to be wearing them... Not sure why!

I probably should have gotten them when I was younger since I now have a nice single buck tooth :(
I was asked did I want them(they wernt a necessity since its just the 1 tooth. The rest are pretty much fine) when I was about 15 but I seemed to be getting punched in the mouth a lot and was really paranoid about them so I said no.
If I could go back and be asked again,id probably say yes since at the moment anytime anyone talks about liking smiles I get really self conscious.I rarely even smile in photos. Ill probably get them at some stage.

That reminds me of an unpleasant experience. Braces + punch in the mouth = suprising amount of blood :(

Getting slapped very hard round the face by a girl + braces = blood; embarrasing

People stick metal loads of other places in the body to look attractive. Braces can look nice

    YES!
A guy I know once drunkenly hit me while I was trying to pick him up off the ground... Flailing his arms around, as you do, and he whacked me in the mouth. Que blood everywhere!
It wasn't a serious accident at all, but from the amount of blood, it looked pretty bad!
    Ugh :(

My orthodontist has made me bleed a few times as well actually. He once cut my cheek while trying to cut the wire in my braces!

    Gross.

My younger brother was really self conscious about his teeth and got braces a few years back. Boy did he hate them!
I used feel so bad for the poor guy whenever he got them tightened.
Bless him he never even complained that much.
Now he has a beautiful set of teeth I'm envious of, and I think the nicest part is seeing him smile in photos, something he used never do cos he was so embarrased about his teeth.
It's lovely to see how much confidence he has now!

I'm lucky I had them between 11 and 13 - must suck to be lumbered with them for later teenage years.

Easy for me to say now, but they are worth it.

I've had mine about 2 and a half years. Awful things. Had em adjusted on friday and I still can't eat without experiencing pain. No idea how much longer I'll need them, must ask at my next appointment. My sister has had em for about a year and shes already got her bottom tracks off >=[

I think braces are very cute on people.

They are of course nothing more than a money racket for the dentistry profession. Half the people who get them don't really need them, its all about the moula for some folk.
