Why ban them for downloading an episode of House. You may as well cut off their electricity for using it to power the computer that illegally downloaded the episode of House.

Why would you want to download an episode of that show anyway?

    its *****

Rules were made to be broken. :)

It's only a civil matter anyway. The infringed can sue you, but you can't be prosecuted for just downloading. So the law doesn't seem to see it as real theft. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think the real question here is, where are these illegal episodes of Glenroe being hosted, and how would one go about getting them? Do you download them through the twitter facebooks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,739 ✭✭✭kleefarr

    Limewire FTW! :D

    Ouch. Be careful.

TV prog downloaders are unsung heroes, and they help people who are allergic to ad-breaks.

They shouldn't be banned from the net although the government (or whoever) should crack down on this sort of stuff. If you want all your entertainment for free, then put your money where your mouth is and move to Cuba or start your own socialist country. Hypocrites.

I personally believe that it is unacceptable to download illegally from the Net. I see it as stealing (all be it from multi millonaires) and therefore anyone who engages in it is breaking the law.

Although I agree it is extremely difficult to prosecute or 'ban' users from the net!

let he that is without sin .......etc etc.

if all the illegal d/l's were banned there would be no use for the internet.

I don't want my entertainment to be free though. I want to have a choice in what I spend my money on - I get nothing out of the TV license that I'm forced to pay, as far as I can see it all goes on paying big salaries to "talent" like Tubridy and Gerry Ryan (cos I'm sure BBC would snap them up in a minute if RTE didn't pay them what they deserve) and commisioning rubbish shows from "comedians". Any shows I watch always come to the British stations first, and even if they do make it to Irish tv I have to sit through too many advert breaks. If the show is good enough, I generally buy the box set, so the makers are getting the money directly. I don't really see the harm in downloading an American show a few months before Channel 4 or BBC get it really.

On the subject of movies and music I agree with you, but not TV shows.

john-joe, you sound like great craic. Never mind all the haters and thieves ;)

I don't download illegally, my cousins send me all the stuff I need. Very obliging folks altogether.

Hi, just wondering does anyone think that anyone who illegally downloads music or movies be banned from the internet?

It'd be about as useful as banning people from forums. Ie., not at all.

We could import a few experts from China to help us frame the legislation, they have valuable experience in this area.

D'you know that in ratio to murder, shop lifting and many other crimes the general punishment recived for piracy is worse than the forementioned crimes...Now think about the unfairness of that John Joe!

The law isnt always right now is it,Sure twasnt it ilegal for black folks to sit at the front of a bus in Alabama anearly 60 years ago,and until the 70's 13 year old girls here could get married. So yeah,I proud myself in the fact that I've never stolen anything in my life, even as a child and "downloading" in my mind and many others isnt stealing.

Why pay 27 euro on a dvd with an unskipable 5 min ad about piracy with that stupid "Dun dun do do dun dun do do do" music when you can just watch it with out having to sit through that.

Maybe because it's a crime to illegally download, would you go into HMV or Golden Discs and take CD's or DVD's?

Just because it is on the internet it does not seperate the two!

    Stealing is stealing.

    Unless you disagree??

    Would you shoot a policeman?
    Then steal his hat?
Then go to the toilet in the hat and deliver it to the grieving widow?
    Then steal it again!

I'm amazed we got this far without that IT Crowd reference

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test
