Do advertisements work on you?

I've just seen an ad for Sensodyne "IsoActive",and all the colourful images of it foaming around "hard to reach" areas has made me want to buy some.
Don't think I've ever had such an immediate reaction to an ad!

I don't normally pay too much attention to ads,but any ads for tasty food(those Marks and Spencer ones),
or the ad for Coke with all the sounds (can opening,ice clinking etc.) make me want to go to the shop.
(Never responded to a toothpaste ad before though!:) )

Most people ignore the ads,but is there anyone here who is very easily influenced by ads,or who has bought things specifically because of a telly ad,and ended up disappointed or satisfied?

I personally think makeup/hair/skincare ads are a joke but my mum is Really influenced by them.

Also can't stand the Fairy dishwasher tablets ad.

AArgh, wtf?!

Bring back the kid building toy rockets with the bottles.:)

Only when I'm hungry and it's a food ad and I'm already out.

Haagen Dazs ads work on me-I see the ad, I go to the shop and I buy Haagen Dazs. There's no middle man, no 'having a bad day' feelings, no other thought involved. I'm like an advertisers wet dream (well a Haagen Dazs advertiser's wet dream)

I'm currently studying advertising and it's effects in college. Most people will say that advertising doesn't work on them but rest assured it does.

Advertising definitely works on people - otherwise, people wouldn't have half the stuff in their trolley they do - or half the brand preferences they do.

Definitely works on me, anyway! As a child, I used to put tons of stuff into the trolley in the supermarket and my parents would give out to me, telling me we didn't need it.
"But it makes your whites whiter!" ... I'd recite the punch-line of every ad for each product back at them!

I work in sales and recently our company started advertising on TV and every store (12ish) bar one or two had their busiest weekend in about six months. Adverts definately work on me, if I hear a good deal I'll buy it if it's something I use. How many men here have a Gilette Fusion and a perfectly good mach 3 at home?

I think I would have to agree with you.
As much as I think makeup/shampoo ads are a joke
(filmed with lash inserts and filmed with some natural hair extensions in tiny writing),
I have to admit I have a large selection of Herbal Essences,and Loreal makeup in my house.

I'm more influenced by user reviews of products in magazines,even though I have heard that some magazines are just paid by the product makers to give good reviews.
Very misleading.:(

I watched an ad for Dell the other day with everybody signing lollipop, it was advertising laptops and how they are being made but as a joke,

anyway after watching it i immediately went to the sweet shop

On a related note, you wouldn't believe the amount of thinking that goes into even the simplest ten second ad on the tv.

Nope. I'll only buy when i need stuff and i usually read up on it. Don't think i've ever seen an ad and bought a product. Consciously or subconsciously.

Well its does and it doesnt. If im on a game site for example and a popup about an upcoming game appears, I might check into it further and then may order it. But if I was sitting watchin TV and an ad appeared about a new flavour of Walkers crisps, or some new kind of brilliant washing up liquid, it wouldnt even register with me. So if Im predisposed to what they're advertising it will work, If im not, it just doesnt.

I think they just raise awareness with me more than make me want to go out and buy it. Like if I seen something on an advert a few times and I was in Dunnes I might see it and buy, definitely not going to run out of the house for hagan daz (or however its spelt :P)

Advertising tends to annoy me, I've done a bit of work in the field and studied up on it out of interest. Every time I look at an add these days I get all worked up start shouting lier at posters and try to make the poster prove it's full of omega 3 goodness. Advertising doesn't work on me because I just start to deconstruct the add to find out where their stretching the truth. I also walk around shopping centres the wrong way.

Actually Guinness advertising is about the only one that worked on me, I signed up on the Guinness website, they sent me loads of free crap, vouchers happy birthday letters and I'm now a Guinness fan.

How could you argue with an ad that says the mascara makes your lashes look 12% bigger?:pac:

15% of the time, I don't even listen to the ad, so I think that means that my lashes are on average 43.25 percent smaller than the lashes of a girl who wears the vibrating/volumising/mega mascara.

My figures might be off what with the original claim being bull

I hate ads!

Seeing a product advertised is enough for me to either stop using the product or to not buy / try it in the first place.

I'd love to meet someone who designs ads and give them a good slap*

*if you are one of them I was just kidding, I secretly love advertisers...shhh...

Those fcukin cadburys ad really piss me off lately. Ok, the gorilla on the drums was good, the first 2 times, but they just get weirder and weirder. Whats the story with the massive timber head floating around this african village and the guy rappin on the roof?

Normal ads dont really affect me but info-mercials tend to have me saying "Hmm,..maybe I would like to get a six pack with no effort all for only 36 easy installments...." :eek:
