Has anyone heard of this guy Jacques Fresco?

I recently watched an interesting film about him, "Future By Design".

    Clip:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hc7x79kJ1S0

He's kind of an eccentric futurist utopian engineer/designer. I'm sure many here would be able to pick chunks out of his points, theories and concepts, but he is a facsinating man nontheless, if only for his radical views and naive charm.

The subject of religion comes up in the second half of the film, and his atheism is softly brushed on.

I'm sure the full version is available online somewhere. smiley_pirate.gif

    Hmm just read this:
Zeitgeist: Addendum, a 2008 documentary film produced by Peter Joseph, is a continuation of the film Zeitgeist, the Movie.......
........concluding with the advocating of the Venus Project, created by social engineer Jacque Fresco.

Haven't yet watched part 2 of Zeitgeist but I wasn't in the least bit surprised to see these two slightly bonkers entities coming together. :D

I knew his brother, Al. :pac:

Have any of his designs actually come to fruition? If he's been doing this his whole life you'd expect not everything is still just a concept.

No, the first 1/3 of it is entirely unaccurate, in the very least. Their interpretation of the money multiplier would make a 1st year economics student cringe. Good god, lad, read a book!

God freak alert!!! Is it because i added the dublin bit? cause in fairness it is a s***hole that should be removed from the earth TBH... in fairness though like i said they do tend to go on rants from time to time (and i personally would not be taking anything said for granted FYI) however they do say repeatedly throughout that a lot of the 'topics' have explained in generalisations. The ideas and way of thinking is correct however to explain something factual of that manner in a short space of time is almost impossible... actually why am I even bothering replying... as for the read a book, WTF would you know "MR 3,241 replies to bords.ie" what a sad individual you are GET A LIFE!:D

You've been carded for inappropriate language, and if there were a card for inconsequentiality, you'd have received one of them too.

What Dublin bit? Oh, I see. No, it's the quoting of Zeitgeist that was enough.

Ah, it's not that bad, in fairness. I sense some trauma with you and Dublin.

I know someone else like that...

I remain skeptical to anyone who gives Zeitgeist a moment of thought.

    Generalisations = half-explained, half-understood, semi-truths.

No, their understanding of the MM is laughable. If it were true, inflation would be at infinite levels. They do not understand economics at even a basic level, but with uncritical fans, it really doesn't matter.

I sense much fear in you, 2xensemble.

Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

so you do believe in the existance of an all powerful figure head which created the world, universe and all living entities within it? Just so were clear I'm not trying to be an advocate of zeitgeist here. and FYI someone who Posts 6.59 times per day every day since may 2008 does for the vast majority of people living in real world with real social lives constitute that you are a SAD INDIVIDUAL!! :D

Powerful you have become Dades, however, the dark side I sense in you.

    No.

But you are. Saying you're not doesn't make it so when you seem to think the video is 'spot on' for the 'vast majority' and that the 'ideas and way of thinking is correct'.

Interesting, however you have posted five times already today. Doesn't take much effort, does it?

Secondly, you must think that the mods of this forum are sad individuals, by that logic.

Thirdly, there are rules to this forum, in particular about personal abuse.

The dark side of me has just given you a couple of days holiday from A&A.

If you're inclined to post here after that, ensure you read the charter in the interim - particularly the part about how you engage with other posters.

Barring a public apology, or adjudication to the contrary, 2xensemble's holiday is now permanent.

Nobody said that. This method of arguing is naive, and putting a personal insult on top only serves to further diminish any integrity anyone might have afforded you.

I saw him in the button factory this year. He's got some balls joining the KKK (to try change their views), gotta respect him for that.

Although, i gotta say, he (and zeitgeist) with their "resource based economy" show some serious disrespect for nature. As far as i can see they see the planet as something that exists only for humans and they want to turn the earth into a giant farm and engineer a society to live on it.

I've got an idea who he is looking for:

Well done. You managed to completely misunderstand his concepts. He strives for the exact opposite of what you stated above. I suggest that you do some more research before making such an asinine assessment of his work.

In that the science and technology is used to invigorate and preserve nature and all the species therein. It is far from "something that exists only for humans". The previous poster said it shows 'disrespect' for nature'. That is an willfully ignorant statement to make. If he bothered to do so much as a quick google and watch a video like this then he would see just how absurd his comment was.

If he plans on giving technology to dolphins then I have to protest. Those guys might be even smarter than we are, and if they get their hands on some guns or a wireless internet connection we could be in serious trouble.

You're right, that would be reckless. I don't think that's on the table though, thankfully.

Here's something to keep in mind.

    TVP full library - $295
    9 DVD set + book - $170
    5 DVD set - $65
    15 CD lecture set - $125
    Autographed photos - $100
I think I remember a tour of his home in Florida going for $200

For someone who preaches about free living and the all the rest, he sure does charge a lot for his crap.

    Don't be a sucker.

Edit: Requesting a "Cults" section be added to religion and spirituality and this thread be moved there.

If you bothered to read his work or view some of his lectures you would hear him quite candidly address the very point you make. Furthermore, it is willfully ignorant to dismiss the theories of one of the 20th century's greatest minds as a mere 'cult'. Perhaps an "ignorant posters who spew uninformed opinions" section should be added and your post could be moved there.
