I don't get it. From this picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/darragh/3926211414/ surely the Luas driver would have had plenty of time to bring his tram to a halt. It appears that end of the bus was hit first and that the forward momentum derailed the tram. And by the damage on the front of the tram it seems to have hit it full on and then slid along the side of the bus.

Maybe the bus ran the red light.

This was my first thought looking at the photo, I've never seen a Luas go straight through the junction, they usually come to a complete stop before pulling out

I wonder does this make the fact the Luas went massively over budget and needed repair very soon afterwards point out it was not a great piece of infrastructure after all. I still think it was a bad use of money and poorly designed and this compounds that belief.

Just heard there is a death and would like to say no matter my view on the Luas that is not an outcome anybody would have wanted

Jokes aside, a death has been confirmed.

    Where you see that?

The brother texted me to say he was just in front of the bus on his bike and the light was green when he went through.

That doesn't look to nice ! Hope everyone is out safe.

I say traffic is going to be mental at rush hour.

You've got to be joking right! The luas is the one piece of infrastructure that works (and works well) in this city.

Anyway - leave your moaning aside, if someone has died in this collision, this is not the time for this argument.

Oh no. Is it the driver?

I was hoping there wouldn't be but it looks quite bad inthe photo.

There is an unconfirmed report that the Luas driver went through the window of his cabin and into the bus. The driver had to be cut out of the wreckage by members of Dublin Fire Brigade and has been taken to hospital.

Any news on whether an (inspector-free) emergency shuttle bus will be provided for people who have to get up to Rialto, Bluebell and Tallaght to buy drugs?

As much as you hate Brian Cowan, wishing him dead is not smart. Actually it's pretty retarded.

You shouldn't have said that there was a death confirmed if it was only a rumour. This thread is now being linked to on twitter with people saying "one death confirmed"

I dont think the people on the bus or luas are laughing. And to the jokers that see the opportunity to crack jokes, god forbid there's no family or relations of yours on board

I hope no one is seriously hurt. But looking at the punters in the picture, I feel like a major rant coming.

*storms out the thread, slams the door, and goes off to the Ranting and Raving section*

A novel solution to the public transport integration issue.

I'm sure if you went through two windows you'd appreciate an oul' joke about it. Terrible thing to happen to someone going about their days work.
