I find cooking anything with a wok to be incredibly bland. I just cant do it!

    Meat and 2 veg style?

Exactly. Or an Irish stew. Sunday roasts = the most boring meal ever.

I only eat them when I'm back at the folks place, and I wouldn't mind, but my mum is an amazing cook (She'd want to be with me being so fussy!).

Edit; Add steak to that. I mean, spruce it up a bit, I don't just want a lump of meat with a few spuds on the side!

Bland?! **** no. Garlic, onion and ginger - fry that up quickly. Add finely sliced meat, fry before adding chopped vegetables. Fry for a bit before adding oyster sauce and soy sauce. Serve on a bed of rice or noodles. ****ing nyom!

Interesting. You like the boring meals, and enjoy or at least can cook them.

So what do you cook for yourself?

Hmm, I think I lost something in translation there :o

No, I don't like boring meals - I'll eat them, but seldom enjoy them!

Well, tonight, I had Chicken Diane, which was lovely.

Tomorrow night, I've some lovely fresh gnocchi, I make a pretty kick-ass cherry tomato based sauce, which I'll probably whip together.

I might have a friend around for Friday night, if I do, I'll cook up some potato based pancakes (not boxty, not a million miles apart either) with a soft cheese and a few different meats (Recipe courtesy of a Chezk friend of mine - They're amazing, plenty of majoram in - The recipe is on one of the photography forums - Search the 'Charleville Castle' threads if you're curious!)

Here's a link to one of my favorite snacks. They're amazing on a warm day.

Of course you can. It's seriously simple! Learnt how to do it while unemployed at the start of the year

I'd agree with Fey there - Stirfry's are great things to be able to put together, especially if you've a few friends coming over last minute - You can cook up a load of food in 15 minutes, plenty of flavour in them. I do find the less garlic in the better though.

I usually throw 1 clove of garlic, 1 onion and half a thumb of ginger in. Gotta be careful that the ginger isn't over powering. You can add freshly chopped chilis in at the start too if you like spicy

my stir fry's usually end up gooey and the veg is not crunchy enough!

I have an aversion to chilli - It makes me feel a bit unwell, and I used to love the stuff, but I've found that not having it in a stirfry means I get to bring out loads of other flavors that would be masked by the chilli - Give it a go!

I'll have a scout around for it in a bit - I think my favorite topping for it was tomatos and hickory smoked rashers.

Veg shouldn't be in the wok for long at all. 2-3 minutes max! The trick to stir frys is seriously high heat. Pick the biggest hop on your cooker and put it on full. Make sure you use a stir fry or peanut oil though so it doesn't start smoking when you put it into the wok. Olive oil is no good.

    Aaaand here we go;

And the cooking? The pleasure was on my side - I just love them. The food is called placky (plural), one is just placek.

Peal and grind potatoes, peal and press garlic, eggs (without shells), plain flour, salt and marjoram. Nothing extra, except the feast ;)

Simple as that. (And it saves everyone reading embarassing posts about my good self :-/ )

Oh, and by grind - Think grate, as in grated cheese - the largest sized holes on your cheese grater work perfect for it. When you put it all together into a large saucepan, you'll end up with a thick goop, get a frying pan up and going with some sunflower oil, and spoon in a helping of said goop, flatten out around the pan, wait 'til it's solidish on one side, and flip it, when that side is nearly cooked, flip again! It takes practice to get the helping right, but it's hard enough to get it *totally* wrong. :)

Thanks...I had a look myself and couldn't find it.
Boxty is reason enough for living by itself. I'm completely opposed to putting anything in it though.
So It will be interesting to put a different spin on things.
