Thieving pack of bastards  I was just in an off-license to get some juice

They're selling multipack bottles and cans individually with no discount!

What's even worse is that they're selling multipacks and instead of pricing the pack they scan 1 item and multiply it by whatever the pack contains.. eg. a pack of 8 cans of Bulmers costs 19.60 and one single can is 2.45

    Totally illegal!

Did anyone encounter this anywhere else?

It's not on, esp in these recessionary times

Let trading standards or its equivalent know if you think it's breaking a consumer law.

    Sounds dodgy enough.

    I certainly will report them.

I asked the assistant are they allowed to sell them like that and she grinned and said she didn't know. Even when I pointed out that it says on the bottles "Not to be sold separately" she was like oh, I dunno

Not bad enough with the high prices of things already, they think they can get away with blatantly ripping people off illegally, cnuts!

If I see then do it I normal say WTF and get then to scan the barcode on the multi-pack.

If anyone is stupid enough to spend the guts of a score on 8 cans of Bulmers, they deserve to be ripped off.

Sounds like one off licence that deserves to be out of business!

    Totally illegal!

    You sure about that?

    Fact, not opinion.

It may say "not to be sold individually" but that doesn't necessarily mean the price for has to be lowered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,100 ✭✭✭✭TestTransmission

    Its a RRP,that is all.

An off licence can charge whatever it wants for its products, same as any shop.
    My advice?Go elsewhere

One question; where the multi-pack was stocked, was there a price displayed there for it anywhere?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,623 ✭✭✭✭My name is URL

When they buy those multipacks they pay lower tax than if they were buying them separately, so if they sell them separately it's pretty much tax evasion is it not?

No price was displayed for the pack, but there was a price on the separate cans. They didn't scan the box either, they scanned a can and multiplied it by 8

You assumed there was a discount for multipack, that's your mistake

I went to the Flea Market today, and found the retro games counter - they were selling Sonic for the megadrive! UNBELIEVABLE  it says right on the cartridge: NOT FOR RESALE

Anyway I called the cops, anonymously. Because god knows that was a waste of taxpayer money.

    Let me get this straight.

    1.Person goes to off licence
2.Picks up 8 pack of Bulmers with no price on it
3.Shop assistant scans the can and then multiplies by 8

    There is no issue here,,,

Well sure, my mistake for going into the shop in the first place.

That doesn't mean that they're in the right though

it's a clear breaking of the 'ronseal imperative' ,not doing what it says on the tin.

If no price was displayed, that is where there is a problem for them.
There has to be a price displayed, thats EU consumer law if my brain serves me right.

Have to agree with Darkfear, if there is no price, you should be asking for confirmation of the prices orally.

They're not in the right if they're selling bewze over the RRP. They're short sighted twats. I'm pretty sure mr. URL won't go there again. I avoid any offie that tries to rip me off. Same with bars. There is plenty of competition in the market and if you want to rip people off then GTFO. Yeah they can sell it at whatever price they want. It just empowers us as consumers to not go back there.

Its not illegal but the suppliers frown on it, there are no tax evasion implications , if they buy it cheaper and sell at the same price then they will actually make more money and pay more tax.

what about the customers who open the multi packs because they want 8 and the mutipacks are 6s. should we line them up and shoot them too??

Its not illegal and never has.

The multipack is a distributor/producer decision. The shop doesn't have to sell them as a multipack but it could hurt their relationship with the producer.

They can sell each can for €10 if they want. I don't understand the tax issue as taxman is more concerned with them collecting the 21.5% from the customer as everything beforehand has been business to business sales.

Hmm i've bought packs of taytoes from my local shop before and later realised that they were 'part of a multipack, must not be sold seperately'.
    Seems kinda dodge to me.

Dunno why you'd want to drink Bulmers though, its piss.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭Kipperhell

Not illegal in any way as said it is just a distribution thing. It is profit mongering

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 34,567 ✭✭✭✭Biggins

There was a price per can displayed. Display price x 8 = price for 8 cans

If so, the directional point of complaint is back to the supplier to the shop and/or to the manufacturer. The cans after all were just in packaging to be honest.

I agree. Its a bit of a grey area.

    They're selling 2 items
    • individual cans
    • 8 pack of cans
if they're going to sell the multipacks as individual cans should they not be removed from the box first? They should have scanned the box they were selling, not what it contains
