A hand full of isolated incidents the authorities here ban Samurai Swords yet the humble retractible Box cutter has been responsible for bringing down several planes, doesn't make sense..

Great, so I'm legally obliged to get rid of my (extremely blunt) ornamental samurai sword that has been sitting happily on the mantlepiece for 2+ years, while some mad ****ing farmers down the road can have shotguns

Just as banning handguns will not prevent crimes involving them (fundamental problem with criminals - they're not licensing their stuff), this will do nothing for knife crime. Be prepared to be fobbed off with the sack of **** excuse that it's to "prevent the development of a culture" of sword ownership. Cheers Dermo!

Watch. They'll ban airsoft next. And Paintball.

You will soon catch up with the UK, where cutlery cannot be sold to those under 18.

I'm sure the samauri swords will be banned. Logical arguments did absolutely nothing to deter the Minister from banning legally-held handguns.

TBH, I can understand the British cutlery restrictions a lot sooner than I'd understand this. Britain has a unique native problem with knife crime culture among youths, but that's to do with a far wider problem of youth gangs.

I don't think Ireland has a fierce problem with bands of Ronin hassling peasants in the countryside or anything, so I can't see where this came from at all.

There are provisions governing both in the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009. Airsoft got fairly well shafted. Paintball got something of an honourable mention, in that it was specifically exempted from the definition of practical or dynamic shooting within the auspices of the Act, which was being banned. (For those not in the know, paintball markers are legally firearms in Ireland. I know they are not in fact firearms, nor are air rifles or air pistols, but from a very legal standpoint, they are).

which is why theyre on the way out.

I know youre sick of hearing the term Nanny State. But then we get Sunbeds and Samurais getting banned.

actually that might be a good name for an album.

Last month Mr Ahern described a recent spate of knife attacks as 'very worrying', but he said the Government was working to try to raise awareness in an effort to reduce knife crime.

Didn't Mr. Ahern get fvcked out for being useless at his job?

Either way, I'm not suprised at this, the RSA have been making the same style of ads for ages.

TBH, I'm suprised its not a "He owns a samurai sword, she dies" campaign.

No. And if he does now, he's already done his damage. Time to lose him was about a year ago.

Why hasnt baseball been banned in America?

I think it would be a step forward if they banned all other types of knives and the only form of cutting instrument available in the country were samurai swords.

No-one is ever going to be able to suddenly pull a samurai sword on someone from nowhere.

You're unlikely to be able to smuggle a samurai sword into a pub/club/other establisment.

If you see someone walking down the street with a samurai sword you can give them a wide berth which is much harder to do if someone has a concealed knife.

Also there would be the possibility of awesome samurai fights :)

Because we don't let our Nana's run the government.

Reminds me of when i lived in Irael, EVERY Israeli citizen between age 17-24 was in the natioanal service and always by law had to carry their guns.. the lassies had their uzis and the lads mostly had the Galil strung over their shoulders. The first time it really stuck out to me was standing in a queue in a bank and i was the only one in the queue without a machine gun!!!

I'd have thought anyone twattish enough to attack somebody with a samurai sword wouldn't have been particular enough to get a decent quality one.

Fact of the matter is that a samurai sword will cut your guts out whether its Yoshimura accredited or not!

The Yoshimura mark of quality aint gonna mean nothing to a pissed up slag after her fella cause hes flopping his chop all over her mothers fancy white tableclothe purchased from marks n sparks later that week!
