Thinking of travelling from Cork to either East Clare JSC or Thurles JSC on Sunday. Haven't played either.

Thoughts on which I should attend. I expect Thurles would be a shorter drive so if it's much of a muchness I'll probably go to that.

Thurles is a horrible track tbh. If you drive a mile you'll find it pretty easy.

    Hi Boards,

can someone please clarify for me what is a Junior / Intermediate scratch cup? I Googled Intermediate Scratch Cup (12-17) I'm off 20 so am I excluded in next weekends open intermediate cup?
    Regards

Junior Scratch is usually 5-11 Intermediate is 12-18 and Minor is above 18 but actuall handicap splits will vary between clubs. You can play in an Intermediate but you must play off of 18 as that is the upper limit.

Anyone else going to Woodbrook this Sunday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 98 ✭✭Snakey

I played in Highfield's intermediate scratch last weekend, and checking the results published on the Irish Times website I see it was won with a 75 by a 17 handicapper. SEVENTEEN! Shooting 75. Unreal. The junior was won with 73!

Maybe it was a misprint. Is there anyone from Highfield on this thread can confirm or deny?

Anyone know is the Arklow Junior Scratch on sep 6th, 18 holes or 36? I meant to ask when booking but completely forget. (€25 good value either way)

How did everyone get on in Woodbrook?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭JCDUB

Didn't play Woodbrook, played Beech Park though.

Absolutely impossible conditions, gale force winds, I fucking hate the 10th hole, and the 11th is not much better:mad:

The one and only highlight of my 2 rounds was a birdie on the index 1 5th, into a howling gale.

Those two point ones put me back out to 9 I think:rolleyes:

Yeah I was at Woodbrook. It was howling but not too much rain. Scoring was patchy - a phenomanal 73 lead, with one guy with a 76 and a couple of guys with 77 after R1. The chap who had 73 then shot 83 to finish third on 156.

Two guys had 155 (79&76, 77&78), one beating the other on the back 18 which was harsh. Pretty decent scoring on what was a really rough day.

Great Prizes - all vouchers, pretty big bucks too.

    Hi

I wonder could anyone on here that uses howdidido check the result of the intermediate scratch cup in the k club yesterday. I had a bit of a score but I have had no success in getting the results from the club. Would check myself but my club doesn't use howdidido.

    Cheers

Thanks Screed, that would be me!!

First time to win a scratch cup. I saw on golfnet that the CSS was 75 so its nice to win something when you get cut by 1.4.

    Thanks lads,

I came close enough a couple of times in other scratch cups but blew up when going well so it was nice not to "do a harrington" this time!! Although I nearly did on the last. If ye know the Smurfit course the last is a par 5 with an island green. Well I layed up to about 130 yards with a 7 iron. The wind was off the left but slightly helping. Anyway I hit a PW but caught it heavy. The ball fell short, hit the rocks, bounced up to the right over the bunker over the back of the green. Here we go again i thought!!:(:( But when I got up to the green it had just stayed on the bank at the back of the green. I chipped and two putted and was delighted with a 6!!!

Open Singles in Rosslare on Wednesday 16th. €30 entry. Played it last week. It's in good nick and is bone dry . . . . which is a rare pleasure on any golf course recently.

Correction - Hear the greens have been spiked in last few days so greens are now poor
