moyvalley are doing a pretty cool looking champions league golf thing as well. you enter a team, and then you get given a champions league team name and you play matches based on the actual champions league. it's handy for me because i'm local to them.i've got a few mates together.

Rang this morning. It's €35 for 18 holes. Lots of spaces on the timesheet. Not surprised at that price.

Carlow Senior Scratch. 72 holes this weekend, no cut. €40. Great value. Anyone playing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭david2002

Are there any times still available?
Down to 4 and wonder would that get in.
    4 x 0.1's would get me back to 5:D:D

Not sure if the wife and 3 kids would survive without me for Sat & Sun:eek:

Lucan's JSC will take place on Sunday July 11th this year. Same format as last year, 36 holes strokes.

We're also holding an Intermediate Scratch Cup on Sunday August 1st. This will be 18 holes strokes.

Timesheets won't open for 3-4 months yet but thought I'd post the details here.

I think we'll keep this thread going rather than starting a new one for 2010 because it's nice to have the history....?
When guys are posting up details of Scratch Cups - maybe at their home clubs or maybe they've rang up somewhere or seen a flyer - can ye please post up the handicap cut-off's too (where known). They are not always standard and it's important to guys around the margins to know if they are eligible to enter or not.

As a very quick pointer to guys who have not played in any/many scratch cups yet I'll write a brief description (which will probably be wrong because I haven't played in many either!).
There are 4 different kinds, based on handicaps.
Senior Scratch is usually from +handicaps up to 4
Junior Scratch is usually 5 to 9 handicaps
Intermediate is usually 10 to 18
Minor is usually 19+ (up to 28?)
Sometimes you can play in these competitions if you are outside the limit but the most you will be allowed is the upper limit... this I'm not exactly sure on. Sometimes a club will run a few of these on the same day... other times you may only have one of these on at a time.

The winner is the person who shoots the best gross score.
There are also nett prizes (the same as most regular club competitions).
Often they will be held over 36 holes (on the same day). If they are over 36 holes, for handicap purposes each 18 hole round is treated separately so even if you play badly in one round you can still get cut in the next.
They are great value, often times much less than a single green fee for maybe 36 holes with the chance of a good prize (& cup) and the course should be set up beautifully off the back tees.
You might meet some boardsies there!

I see the Heath have a two day Junior/Intermediate/Minor Scratch down there in May. Haven't been down their in years, anyone know what it's like these days?

I remember it being wide open and fairly run-of-the-mill, but always enjoyed playing it.

Am I right in saying the Castle Junior Scratch is on a Friday, or is that a misprint?
Anyone any idea if it's 4+ or 5+?

    Two questions from me...
Are juniors allowed to play in scratch cups?
Will you be put into a group by the club or do you have to bring your own partner

Jasonw, do you know the handicap ranges and format for this?

    Cheers

I think it's from 5 up but I'm not sure. If you play off 4 you should check with the club beforehand on 021 4385297. It's a scratch competition so the upper limit doesn't apply but you would need to be capable of shooting 80 max of the blues on a difficult course. anything over that rarely qualifies. I think I squeezed in last year with an 81 but it was a very windy day.

The format for qualifing is 1 round of strokeplay. Top 64 gross scores qualify for matchplay competition played over the easter weekend.
