    R.I.P. Mr. Kennedy.

    TheZohan you missed my point.
I know how he is and what he has done (good/bad and the mystery of a young lady's death) but he is not excempt from criticism. I mentioned Madeline McCann cos as a child she was quite innocent. Ted for all his achievements is a Kennedy and they are far from the saints the irish media portray them as.
And to suggest that Ted Kennedy is more deserving of a "free ride" thorugh this forum than Madeline is sickening.
    you disgust me.

In fact you missed the point so badly I think you are a fool

Have a go at a post, not the poster is the general rule here.
God knows I've been an idiot at times but good folk here have refrained from stating it, sticking within the forum rules.

Seems to me that he understood the point perfectly anyway...

    RIP,
hope there are good successors of his to continue the link with Ireland.

A sad loss to US politics and, in some ways, the end of an era.

    May he rest in peace.

Sad that he's dead, he done alot of good regardless of what wrong he may have done

I wouldn't be a supporter of the whole political dynasty thing though.

Frankly too many of them were involved in governance, imo

I must be blind but where EXACTLY did TheZohan say that "...Ted Kennedy is more deserving of a "free ride" through this forum than Madeline...".

Before you go getting disgusted, can you point out the source of its justification for existence.
    Its a fair question!

Unlike his two brothers who got shot by other people, he managed to shoot himself in the foot a couple of times, so never made as much progress up the US political ladder.:(

He could have easily taken the democratic nomination in '72 and given Nixon a hell of a run but in the end refused to run on speculation about the '76 presidential race.

I reckon he didn't want to face an existing president in an election. But what does it matter, a fine man and a fine politician god rest his soul.

    .

Vote would have remained the same

49 states for Nixon v Kennedy home state, even in 1979 he was been roasted for Mary Jo, that and Nixon was popular

to some ted kennedy was american royality, a blue-blood,a surrogate to a litany of fatherless kennedy children,a irish/catholic,but to others he was a man that was kicked out of harvard for cheating, involved with gang crime, murder, coverups, that left two of his brothers assassinated, still most will remember him as a leading american politition,

i've nothing against Ted Kennedy (except for Irelands hard-on for his family) but why?
as mods you tolerate all kinds of offensive ****e against others (Madeline Macann and her parents for example)

what make Ted Kennedy so special?

I doubt he can. I still await where exactly your supposed to have stated what he claims.
I won't hold my breath for an accurate reply.
I think its better the rest of us move on and get back to the topic.

The man for any faults he might have, stood up to those that sought to put Ireland down, within the states.
He was one of the best unofficial ambassadors for our country that ever lived.
Granted, like some politicians, he made a few mistakes (Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone).
But for any errors he might have made, for the amount of good he did, those good things far, far exceed any possible (still not proven! Innocent until FOUND guilty?) misdeeds he might have done as a small few others claim.

He was a good man, a good ambassador and a hard worker.
I hope someday others can say just the same about me when I go. I'd be so blessed.

It would be a real shame if this thread is closed because of unecessary bickering and nit-picking.I would have thought people would show some decorum as this man played a significant role in the Northern Ireland peace process and has always been a very great support to Ireland.

He might have done? He was found guilty.

He waited until 10 o clock the morning after the incident in Chappaquiddick to report the fact that Mary Jo had died in the car he drove. Even then, it was only after he realised that the body had been discovered. After the accident he went back to his hotel for a sleep, he even had the neck to complain to the hotel owner that he was being kept awake by a party.

Of course the jail sentence he should have recieved, was suspended because of who he was.

He did some good but the man was far from a saint.

100% True, but the way some Americans make out, you'd swear he was a criminal of the worst kind. As stated above, he made mistakes but by far the vast majority of his actions were indeed very, very good not just to his own people but to the Irish.
Some just find it easy to overlook that however and just pick on the minority one (or two, if there is a second?) things he did wrong.

We have all made mistakes to some different degree. Should we all be judged just by our small bad mistakes or hopefully by a fuller assessment of both bad and good?

I personally still consider him to be generally by far, a good person.
I'm a sinner so I can't cast the first stone.

I don't think there was a second, he was just a tad bit fond of the women and gargle. :pac:

The amount of good he did is to be applauded though.

    R.I.P
