Cork = Full of annoying little cvnts saying "howya boy"

Dublin = Full of annoying cvnts saying "want some heroin" and "give me ur fcukin wallet ya fcukin culchie bastard"

Galway= great place, best bouncers in the country, great women :D
It's like an oasis in a desert except in Galway's case it's in the middle of the biggest ****hole of a country.
    It's like Camelot in England,
It's like a beautiful woman in the middle of 31 other fat ugly cvnts.
It's like Brazil in the world cup surrounded by Ireland/England and all those other ****e teams
It's like a €100 note in your wallet with a few fivers around it.
It's like a Ferrari Enzo in a parking lot of skodas.
It's like Lionel Messi in a Newcastle Team

PS: I'm not from Galway :P

Seriously, Dublin gets a good bashing on boards along with Cork, I'm from neither of these places, but Galway always seems to escape even though it's full of crusty hippy, Hallelujah, crappy acoustic guitar playing, sandle wearing, white man with dreads, over sized wooly jumper wearing knobs. Am I wrong to say that Galway is the smug self righteous, hippy capital of the country and worse than Dublin and Cork put together?

    Your thoughts ladies and gentlemen!:D

Blimey. When was the last time you were in Galway? I wish it was still full of "crusty hippy, Hallelujah, crappy acoustic guitar playing, sandle wearing, white man with dreads, over sized wooly jumper wearing knobs". It'd make a change from the self-congratulatory smugsters telling each other they live in the best "city" in Ireland

In fairness, I think all Irish 'cities' are pretty crap anyway, and saying one is better than the other is a ridiculous act. However looking at the negatives of 'cities' here in Ireland by far Galway has to be near the top. Dublin, expect junkies and skangers sauntering around the place, but these can be easily avoided. Same to for Limerick and Cork on this. And in fairness, you can always laugh at Cork people, sure they might have the biggest county but they indeed have a ridiculous "I just got off the boat to America" aspect. Galway on the otherhand has the insidious nature of being the hippy capital of the country, and to be fair smug hippies are much worse than the heroin, burnt out cars, silly accents of the other places...;) Portarlington FTW!!!:)

In reply to the last guy there was close to 100 people arrested on the Thursday night alone of race week. I am from Galway and it is full of hippy scum but it's still by far better than Cork and Dublin. I'm not even a big fan of Galway either it's just how it is.

Galway is the best city in the country, by a long shot.

Cork is w4nk, full of twats who call themselves "rebels" and they dont even know what a rebel is, take them to belfast or derry for the night and see how they get on.
Dublin is an ethnic playground, full of non-nationals and heroin addicts, and the accent would go through your head....its just so so so bad.

galway is the most backward place in ireland. full of smellyhippies and i never thought i would use this word, gombeen men, also dressed as hippies

I've lived in Galway, Cork, Limerick, and Dublin and feel very qualified to answer this one! (you need to live in a city to know it BTW)

The bleeding heart liberals and hippydippycrusty types make up such a tiny proportion of the Galway population as to be insignificant. They are despised by most Galwegians and it is baffling how in the name of hell they came to characterise the city.

A more real threat to day-to-day life in Galway and its reputation are the assholes from other places who come (usually stags/hens) in on the weekend and can't hold their drink. You know who you are. ;)

All people not from Galway: Galway sucks. Stay away.
    All Galwegians:
Shut up telling them! They'll only come in and wreck the place! Out of townies! With stupid accents. Covering the place in puke with their cocaine and their short skirts and their fecking GAA jerseys. And if anyone from out of town asks you where the spanish arch is, point the feckers towards sligo and then punch them in the face.

    Galway is great.
    Or was some years ago.
    Still not bad.

The knife wielding scummers are slowly taking over little by little but we have an excellent police service here, all murders so far have be solved.
Probably the worst traffic in the country.

Galway is by far and away the best city in Ireland. Having lived in London for a year I would much prefer to live in Galway. I'm doing a course in Cork at the moment and its not a bad city and dont mind living down here but still it cannot compare with Galway. I put it this way I have been in Cork 8 months and I have only waited in Cork for 4 weekends all the rest(and at about 4pm today) I head for home(co. galway).

I took two weeks holiday for the races and it nearly killed me coming back down after. I have been doing race week for longer than I can remember but this was the best one ever. The most place I have been which got close to the craic in Galway is Edinburgh which is also a fantastic place imo.

I wont even mention Dublin as I have a major dislike for the place.

    Gaillimh Abu!!

 Link please? Didn't read or hear any report of that.
There were 50 arrests over the Bank holiday Weekend reported in a few papers.

Ah but there are a lot of them though. I moved from Dublin to Galway a year ago and one of the first things I noticed was that there is definitely a much higher proportion of hippies here.

I actually don't think of Galway as a city at all. Just a large town. And not even very large at that. It's a bit too small for me really.

I love Galway, it's nice to live here for a while but tbh after a year it's back to Dublin with me now and I cannot wait :)

Cork.. well it's alright for a day. I definitely wouldn't live there. My sister goes to college there though and likes it. Horses for course and all that.

I just got back from a 2 day stint in Galway. Lovely time. Always have a great time when I go to Galway. It really reminds you of what a complete dump Dublin is and Im not even going to start on when I visited Cork. I dont want to relive that. Plus the women are alot more attractive than the Dublin types. Its the air i think

Where did Galway get the hippy/crusty reputation? I've lived here my whole life, and the only time there were a lot of crusties was during one or two of the Arts festivals years ago.

However, give me hippies over scumbags/skangers anyday!

I love Galway - it's got a great quality of life, except for the traffic - but sure, you always hear about the 1-2 hour commutes Dubliners have to face every day, so I'm not complaining about my short commute, with an absolute maximum of 20 minutes. There's a great atmosphere here during the summer with all the festivals etc. despite the rain. There's always going to be troublemakers wherever you go, you just have to try to avoid them, something I seem to be successful enough at.

I'm not going to say Dublin and Cork are ****e, but I love being from Galway and living here. Everywhere has it's positives and negatives.

I actually quite like Dublin and Cork, for a visit only though, I wouldn't want to live there. I'm sure thousands could say the same about Galway, that doesn't bother me though - each to their own.

ETA. I didn't know Galway women had a reputation for being good-looking. Well, I'm Galway born and bred :D

Well there are exceptions to every rule :P

I like that in Galway when it rains it becomes a nicer place, the country is exciting, there are places to hide in the city and the only drunken knacker screaming down his phone has a Dublin accent. Galway is the only place where one actually feels Irish ( it might have something to do with the diddlyeye shops)

Galway is the only other part of Ireland I could ever see myself living in besides Dublin!

Galway is awesome (Corkman here). Galway doesn't have any misconceptions about its size - it feels like a small city/big town and everyone is ok with that. Cork on the other hand... yeeesh, give us a break lads.

    Galway goods:
Way too many great pubs for a city its size
Loads of arty stuff going on
    Very low scumbag/skanger quotient
Very accepting to blow-ins, foreigners, the gay community etc. Locals are very friendly.
A good, genuine, friendly spirit (anyone who think Galway is "up itself" has either never been here or is friends with the wrong people)

    Bads:
    Crap weather
    Crap infrastructure
    Hen parties

because dublins such a massive city on a world scale ;)

all irish "cities" are nothing more than large towns, dublin with 400,000 isn't even in the top 100 cities population wise in europe never mind the world (in before claims dublin is 1 million, ah thats the whole county, galway should claim tuam and ballinasloe ;)) dublin is smaller than well know metropolises like bradford ffs

any bigger and galway would be nightmare, traffic is already a disaster
