Is Galway worse than Cork and Dublin?

Seriously, Dublin gets a good bashing on boards along with Cork and Limerick, I'm not from any of these places, but Galway always seems to escape even though it's full of crusty hippy, Hallelujah, crappy acoustic guitar playing, sandle wearing, white man with dreads, over sized wooly jumper wearing knobs. Am I wrong to say that Galway is the smug self righteous, hippy capital of the country and worse than Dublin, Cork and Limerick put together?

    Your thoughts ladies and gentlemen!:D

Galway is the best large town in Ireland.

Galways problem is that it presents itself as some sort of Bohemian town but is run by gombeen men.

Galway definitely has a higher bull**** factor than any other city in Ireland, in the sense that what it is and what it pretends diverge so much.

Galway is fantastic. Yes, there are hippies and such, but are largely inoffensive. We've got plenty of characters around town as well, such as Seamus the knacker dwarf. Also, we have the finest pubs in the country.

Ah Galway, home of Ireland's hippies and liberal nut jobs, apparently they have some sort of Arts Festival too. On the plus side they have attractive women which may be attributed to Galician DNA as apparently Ancient Ireland was first settled by humans from Northern Spain. Pity about their crappy football and hurling teams though.

You didn't mention Frada Batman hails from Galway.

I was only in Galway once.
I can't remember the name of the Hotel but it was in Salthill I know it overlooked Galway Bay.
It was a very enjoyable stay, but quite a while ago now.

Give me crusty hippys and sandle wearing knobs that inhabit Galway over some of the vermin that inhabit Limerick City Centre any day.

Agreed 100%, although you forgot the worst aspect, the amount of rain it gets.

But yes, false culture and rain, all it is. Plus it costs an arm and a leg to get there and back from civilisation. The only plus point of that wretched county is the fairly big proportion of attractive birds with a vaguely mediterranean look about them.

Grew up in Dublin, lived in Cork, now live in Galway. The people generalising about hippies and crusties have obviously never been to Galway. Of any large town/city in Ireland Galway has the best quality of life, bar none. I enjoyed living in Cork too, really nice people, but wouldn't move back to Dublin for anything.

    Galway > Cork >>> Dublin

Cork = Full of annoying little cvnts saying "howya boy"

Dublin = Full of annoying cvnts saying "want some heroin" and "give me ur fcukin wallet ya fcukin culchie bastard"

Galway= great place, best bouncers in the country, great women :D
It's like an oasis in a desert except in Galway's case it's in the middle of the biggest ****hole of a country.
    It's like Camelot in England,
It's like a beautiful woman in the middle of 31 other fat ugly cvnts.
It's like Brazil in the world cup surrounded by Ireland/England and all those other ****e teams
It's like a €100 note in your wallet with a few fivers around it.
It's like a Ferrari Enzo in a parking lot of skodas.
It's like Lionel Messi in a Newcastle Team

PS: I'm not from Galway :P

Blimey. When was the last time you were in Galway? I wish it was still full of "crusty hippy, Hallelujah, crappy acoustic guitar playing, sandle wearing, white man with dreads, over sized wooly jumper wearing knobs". It'd make a change from the self-congratulatory smugsters telling each other they live in the best "city" in Ireland

In fairness, I think all Irish 'cities' are pretty crap anyway, and saying one is better than the other is a ridiculous act. However looking at the negatives of 'cities' here in Ireland by far Galway has to be near the top. Dublin, expect junkies and skangers sauntering around the place, but these can be easily avoided. Same to for Limerick and Cork on this. And in fairness, you can always laugh at Cork people, sure they might have the biggest county but they indeed have a ridiculous "I just got off the boat to America" aspect. Galway on the otherhand has the insidious nature of being the hippy capital of the country, and to be fair smug hippies are much worse than the heroin, burnt out cars, silly accents of the other places...;) Portarlington FTW!!!:)

In reply to the last guy there was close to 100 people arrested on the Thursday night alone of race week. I am from Galway and it is full of hippy scum but it's still by far better than Cork and Dublin. I'm not even a big fan of Galway either it's just how it is.

Galway is the best city in the country, by a long shot.

Cork is w4nk, full of twats who call themselves "rebels" and they dont even know what a rebel is, take them to belfast or derry for the night and see how they get on.
Dublin is an ethnic playground, full of non-nationals and heroin addicts, and the accent would go through your head....its just so so so bad.

galway is the most backward place in ireland. full of smellyhippies and i never thought i would use this word, gombeen men, also dressed as hippies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,942 ✭✭✭topper75

I've lived in Galway, Cork, Limerick, and Dublin and feel very qualified to answer this one! (you need to live in a city to know it BTW)

The bleeding heart liberals and hippydippycrusty types make up such a tiny proportion of the Galway population as to be insignificant. They are despised by most Galwegians and it is baffling how in the name of hell they came to characterise the city.

A more real threat to day-to-day life in Galway and its reputation are the assholes from other places who come (usually stags/hens) in on the weekend and can't hold their drink. You know who you are. ;)

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 35,946 Mod ✭✭✭✭dr.bollocko

All people not from Galway: Galway sucks. Stay away.
    All Galwegians:
Shut up telling them! They'll only come in and wreck the place! Out of townies! With stupid accents. Covering the place in puke with their cocaine and their short skirts and their fecking GAA jerseys. And if anyone from out of town asks you where the spanish arch is, point the feckers towards sligo and then punch them in the face.
