Lucan JSC won yesterday by a young lad from Clontarf playing off 5 with a total of 149 (77, 72 I think). The best score after Round 1 was 71 which gave the leader a 4 shot lead heading out in the afternoon but unfortunately he signed for an NR having turned +7 after 9 holes and then losing a ball on the 17th.

All in all a good day but a little disappointing that we had a number of no shows (including 3 from Royal Dublin) and no phone calls to let us know they weren't coming.

Glowing reports from all of the competitors I spoke to regarding the presentation of the course even if one or two pin positions caused some problems.

Our resident Scot, Graeme1982, who was first on the course with his buddy from Elm Green, managed to complete both 18's in a little over 3.5 hours each. Hope you enjoyed your day Graeme and good to meet you.

The course was in great nick pity about my golf...

Ahhhh so thats Graham, Was talking to him before he tee'd it up as I got there a tad early well 40 mins before tee time so was doing some putting practise..

We where the same flew around no delays at all which was a nice change for a JSC..

Which group were you in Jim? I may have spoken to you during the course of the day as I was flying round in a cart trying to keep play moving.

Yeah you where talking to me then as seen you a few times on the course.. I was out at 7.58 with the guy who came 2nd I think..

Haha... i was only thinking today that that could have been you on the putting green beforehand.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day and thought the course was in great shape. Very well organised on the day too.

There were a couple of tricky pins... the 7th was very tough first round. Typical though, we watched the guy move the pin before we teed off 2nd round and sure enough i knock an iron to about 3 feet... from the old pin! A 3 putt duly followed to the new pin.

I was going to Play the ashbourne one but think I will be giving it a miss and just practicing this w/end as the short game espically the putting needs a few heavy sessions...

    You playing many recently?

Think I might head for Balbriggan this Sat, JSC on there.

Never played it, any opinions?Worth the trip?

Only €20 and there's a few spots on the sheet just before 11.18 holes.

    Hi JCDUB,

Just to confirm it is 36 holes this weekend in Balbriggan. I am a member there and it is well worth the €20. Course was redeveloped over the last 2 years and re-opened at the end of May.

Thanks pistol, it never mentioned anything about it being 36 on the website, and for whatever reason I thought it was 18:rolleyes:

Wonder what the weather will be like now, must have a look on the met site later in the week!

Draw for the Lumsden Cup at Royal Dublin is out. Got it in an email earlier...

Not gonna bother with it myself, but the timesheet for the Lord Mayors is open. You can book it on the website, still a good few slots left.

http://www.windguru.com/int/index.php?sc=4862 (Dublin) is a great site for checking weather on. Chose from several coastal locations around Ireland. It's aimed at surfers so is specific to coastal locations. Almost fool proof if used in conjuntion with www.bbc.co.uk.

Woodbridge Junior Scratch is on August Bank holiday Monday. €20 up front is great value for the 18 holes. Here's hoping for good weather. The draw is on the middle of next week. Gowran the day before and it has the makings of a great golfing weekend.

    Why aren't you playing?

Can't believe Old Conna JSC was off on Sunday. That's the third one this summer!!!

Just had a look at the Lord Mayors sheet and it's pretty empty to be honest. The Lumsden Cup also didn't attract a huge entry either and there didn't seem to be any cut off or waiting list this year.

Is it a sign of the times?

Eh, wtf is going on? Last year both were swamped with applicants...

I pulled into the car park to see a big "course closed" sign and no cars there. There was some heavy rain over night but i didnt think it was THAT heavy!!

No point if you're playing... it's now a certainty to be rained off. :D

I've virtually no chance of getting the time off to play the matchplay so not much point. I would've played the Sunday only, but €25 to play Clontarf? No chance.

It wasn't that heavy at all as I was out and was a light drizzle most of the time.. suppose it being up a tad higher might of got hit a tad harder..

No sign of a message then or did they not get the numbers as I would say some people would be pretty pissed after drving up to it..

The timesheet was quite full actually. I rang up on Thursday trying to slot in a mate but only very early times were available. Course was closed. Nuts.

Haha, well I'm not playing so all those who are can breathe a sigh of relief that it most likely will be lovely weather, rather than rained off!
