Do you really think smuggling stuff into Ireland is that hard? We have a lot of coast and not a lot of people protecting it. If someone wanted to badly enough they could.

But no one is going to do it because there’s no point. We are pretty small fish in the grand scheme of things. If there ever was a nuclear war we would probably come out really well except for possible problems with fall out when England gets Fcuked up. No one has much of a reason to use a nuke on us they all would have bigger threats to deal with.

you don't have to launch a nuclear weapons as dude below said... Ireland's got what to trawlers and a few ribs in there navy... more drugs pass through Ireland then you can ever imagine......

The cold war era notion that most people have is silly. The image of large missile silo's opening and countries launching nukes at other countries....who in turn retaliate with their own nukes, is laughable. Governments, who control these weapons, are interested in self preservation.

Smuggling in a dirty bomb is what will happen eventually. Terrorists hired by other terrorists, or just crazies doing **** coz they are mental, whatever. Its inevitable. Its cheap, and you can hit anywhere in the world with it....without worrying about countermeasures like the ones the americans are so eager to install in eastern europe.

But its going to happen to some poor country eventually. It has to. I'm just surprised it hasnt happened yet.Ofcourse, not here. We have nothing to worry about really. But If they were trying to hit the UK though, it would probably come through us or France. Some people might call that Karma

There was a nice little app, someone will have to google for it, of what would happen in the even of a nuclear strike on any given city. Basically you select the size of the weapon, point it over a realistic map of Dublin say, and then you would see the aftermath.

The types of weapons used against Japan at the end of WW2 would flatten the city centre out to about Ranelagh to Artane. Couple of bigger weapons, placed strategically, would render Ireland uninhabitable.

It's ironic that the name of the bomb that nuked Nagasaki was called "Fat Man", given that our "Fat Man" has done the same to Ireland, only without the radiation. He has also rendered Ireland uninhabitable.:(

A nuclear bomb is rather expensive, like 20 billion or something. You could probably buy most of Dublin for that kind of money (and then leave it to destroy itself).

Yes, most of them aimed at Germany and one for Dublin, they definitely are NOT aimed at Iran, Egypt, Syria, or Libya. :rolleyes:

We're screwed anyway.

Given the explosive power of todays nukes, even if we didn't get hit and England did, the radiation clouds carrying the ash, dirt and intergrated radiation, the whole of Ireland within weeks would be dosed anyway.

As for Windscale - sorry, Selafield (despite the same PR name change, it still the same dump), if that gets hit or even badly damaged, we are screwed as well - just quicker by a matter of hours.

I wouldn't worry about something you can't change.

The only two bombs actually used in an attack in history were not detonated on capital cities. Furthermore, just because Dublin is a capital does mean its a more likely target... Someone wants to bomb the UK...
