Agree with this. Come back to Dublin in 20 years time and you'll see a different story, but for now avoid the white hoodies at all costs. The black guys now are fine , but their sons will probably be a different matter.

This sounds to me as pure ignorance as when one does not know any black people or grew up with the stereotypical idea that all blacks are criminals and violent (which is nonsense), sure you then you will fear it.
How often do you read bout blacks doing criminal activities from mugging to murder? And I am talking bout Ireland.. Read some news papers and get some statistics, then try again to fuel hatred for someone's colour..

I'd just get the two groups together and introduce them and get them to start trading stories about their lives and stuff and broaden their horizons and get them to start y'know start hanging out with each other and stuff and then we wouldn't have such a prejudiced thread about young black lads and white lads in hoodies, it'd just be a thread about young lads in hoodies.

And then I'd have solved racism and while the black lads and the white lads were having the craic with each other on one of the streets I'd leg it home down the other.

Out walking earlier my daughter said she fancied a "wog". :eek:

I nearly had a stroke and was about to tell her off for being racist till she explained she was too energetic to walk and too tired to jog so she was going to have a "wog" instead!

Everyone is so caught up on being "PC" it's crazy. People are people regardless of colour, religion etc. Some are good and some are "scumbags" personally I'd walk on the side of the street where the "hoodies" aren't armed!!;)

YEP, The white hoodies will probably drag the black hoodies down to their level. Suppose that is what racism does, it makes the victims racist and hence the viscious circle.

how was the post pure ignorance?? i wasnt making any assumption about either group it was an example, i could have said i chose the street where the black teens in hoodies were , but i was giving an example of subconscious discrimination and asking was it racist in peoples opinion??

basically i was just making the point that we all make subconscious decisions that if we had to justify/ verbalise/ discuss would appear racist/ discrimatory/ sexist. there are lots of other examples - choosing a female childminder over a male childminder , picking the white person last in a game of basketball etc....

I'd largely agree with you on that. The Minister, a poster here, had a nice link on it that I read a few days ago. Can't for the life of me find it.

Basically, a black taxi driver discriminated against blacks in certain areas. Was that racist?

Slightly changed, I would take the one with the Black lads, they are far nicer and generally more courteous. I only know one black scumbag, and he is whiter than me in the way he acts.

yeah they'd be doing well to be worse than the more 'native' scumbag. obviously there are scumbags in all walks of life but in dublin in 2009, i'd wager that they are not black teens by and large.

I'm rocking down the side the Brothers are on, no contest.

Odds are that they are first/second generation immigrants who's parents are fairly strict (I know a fair few young African kids and all their parents are strict and as a result the kids are well behaved) and their kids might look sketchy but are far less likely to mug you than a group of James, Joe, Davie and Peters from across the road.

See this is the thing. You think you're not a racist but....

That stand up comedian Doug Stanhope has a good bit on it. He's talking about how he goes in to a McDonalds and sees a black kid behind the counter, happy and joking about and immediately thinks "it's good that he has a job and is off the streets".

But if it was a white kid he'd think "why the hell are you happy about you work at McDonalds".......

funny how years ago many irish were ridiculed like this as well and seen as nothing.. no dogs, no irish, no blacks..
the ignorance and blatent racist remarks on this thread are ridiculous! this has nothing to do with being pc, but with just seeing past someone's colour. sure i believe that nowadays people are more scared to make remarks, but when remarks are made with no intention to hurt or without knowledge, it can be overcome.
seriously tell me where do you find black kids with hoodies hanging on IRISH streetcorners to mug you?? any kids hanging on streetcorners over here and causing problems are white.

Personally I'd love someone to get beaten to a pulp for going down the side of the road with white lads if they were faced with one side white teens in hoodies and other black teens in hoodies. its hypothetical question because even me from probably the only true 'multi ethnic' part of ireland never sees a congregation of black teens in hoodies. black teenagers yes but scumbag congregation like we see of the more 'native' scumbag no.
