From your earlier posts you seem to think the Czech Republic sets a standard for the world, and nowhere did I say or even imply that 'any country using GMT is the standard for the world'. I have been to the Czech Republic twice (on an aeroplane too, thanks very much) and I have several Czech friends. Did I say that Ireland, or Northern Ireland, is in any way superior to the Czech Republic? No. Not better or worse, just different. You are the one with the attitude of complete acceptance or non-acceptance of entire countries and their populations.

Neither did I say that Heaney is 'the best poet', but I do believe he deserved the Nobel Prize he won in 1995, and he continues to produce outstanding work. What makes him right? Well, who said anything about him being right or wrong? What makes him unique? Lots of things. I can't understand your insistence on pointing out that he is an Irish male studied on the Irish Leaving Cert. Does that mean his work is of no relevance to the rest of the world? He gives lectures at Oxford and Harvard and I know a PhD student from Pakistan who is comparing his work to that of the Islamic transcendentalists. But hey, if you want to pigeonhole him as an irrelevant local poet, go right ahead.

What does Maud Gonne have to do with anything?

They hate gays, do they? My gay friends will cross the border to go out in Derry and Belfast because they find those cities more gay-friendly than their home town.

If we take into account the probable Norman inbreeding with the native Irish, along with that of English and Scots. Most of us probably genetically differ from the "first Irish".

Even they were foreigners.

People don't realise that when a country is settled first, they have to come from somewhere else first!

This view of what is "foreign" is outdated for the society we currently live in. I personally think if your ancestors arrived in Ireland 400 years ago there isn't really much cause to call the current generation "foreigners".
