What about the word 'again'. As in 'again I get to the shops they'll be closed'. Where did that come from - 'again' instead of 'by the time'?

And my friend used to work in UCI. When 'LA Confidential' came out, some people asked for tickets for 'La Confidential' in a bad French Accent. Or when 'Just Cause' came out, they asked for tickets for 'Just 'Cos'.

I think it's ne'er, which is a shortened version of never.

Crone: That it be... that it be...
Edmund: "Yes it is", not "That it be". You don't have to talk in that stupid voice to me, I'm not a tourist.
    .....
Edmund: Thank you Young crone. Here is a purse of moneys....... which I'm not going to give to you.

    "axe a question"

when people over-pronounce the s in issue.. it's probably more phonetically accurate, but at the sake of sounding like a cúnt.

My boss always says "that will be suffice" or "will that be suffice?" instead of "that will be sufficient". For years!
I always cringe when she says it in a meeting.

You know the way (some) Mayo people say "minyute" instead of minute?

Also "used of" instead of used to.

Rather ironically, one of the mispronunciations that irks me the most is mispronounciation :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,417 ✭✭✭jasonb

Just thought of another one! To 'try AND do something' instead of to 'try TO do something'. Though I guess that's more of a grammar thing...

    Actually it's more like Leeedl.

In the same trend, having lived on the continent for ages, the UK/Irish pronunciation of Ikea as "Eye-kee-ah" really annoys me. It should be "Ick-eh-ah".
