Seriously. You started a thread about this. It was locked.
Stop hijacking other threads. You obviously dont seem interested in ucc for its academics so why consider even going to college ?
    Just curious.

You will find a good bit of the abhorrent cork accent but there are a lot of girls in ucc who develop a detestable fake accent that is either supposed to sound intelligent or trendy or some kind of mix.
And then there are the foreign girls :D

    :confused::confused:

I'd say most of the girls attending UCC would like to think they can speak normally.

And 2) That the pastime of choice for the academic staff of ucc is musical beds. I guess that because CIT is smaller the lecturers have to be more descrite about which other members of staff they are seeing because news should theoretically travel faster around the place.

    Lol! :D
I have to ask: what are you basing that on?

    Are you Irish?

Because if there isn't something being lost in translation here, it's pretty ironic that you're posting in a university forum...

And you are on a thread thats asking people if CIT people have a grudge against UCC people. Where was girls mentioned ?
Look if you want to know. There are smart girls, funny girls, cute girls, ugly girls, hot girls, quite girls, loud girls, Irish girls, Foreign girls, guys who want to be girls...... . Its a univeristy of about 15,000.
I.E. its varied, like almost every other college.

I graduated with from UCC with a 1H and in my experience on work placement at Intel the CIT boys really hit the ground running, good knowledge of how to get a site up and running etc and the programs to help him, visual studio fireworks etc.
One guy was churning out an internal site a week!
But if he hit a problem then me and my good mate from UCC would walk down and solve it for him. He had to leave work during the placement with an ulcer caused by stress and we had to continue his work.
Jesus H Christ and his dad Billy Ray Cirus!!!! His code was a farce, how did this ****e even work?? It actually offended us to look at this guy writing 100's of lines of code where a few would have done. When I write code they way I have been thought in UCC I don't get stressed, I know its good code, I understand the principles.
That's when it hit me! UCC has given me a better education than this poor sap got! He later graduated with a 1H also.
So my point is go to UCC and you'll take a while to get up to speed, go to CIT and spend the rest your life trying to undo the damage.

Don't think that is very fair. Generalising a college and it's quality based on one guy's work. Well done.

I can say though, it all depends on the individual. You can also graduate from UCC being complete useless as well.

It doesn't matter what college you go to. If you don't put work in and produce quality work, then you will end up like most other computing graduates - complete useless.

And I also worked in Intel and got on very good while I helped UCC people so it goes both ways.

I went to CIT for five weeks back last September and what a dump. We didnt have any finalised timetable for one month, some classes only the first 20 that arrived were allowed in. And this is the place that wants University status  Crap crap crap clubs and socs too. I went on the clubs and socs day and signed up for only 2; then a few weeks later I saw a sign for Politics thats wasnt there.

Your also treated like a kid in there. It truely is a creche for young adults. One of my buddies went into class with a hat on and was given some smart comment by the lecturer teacher and told to take it off. At the age of 20. Kids schools is all I say.

The inferiority complex is alive and kicking. Crap phrasing such as "CIT is more practical." Bollox, most course nowadays arent even practical, its all theoretical stuff. The problem is some people buy into it - I even did because I was trying to justify going there with such high points.

I will always tell people that, if possible, never go near the place. Me and three friends started there at the same time; only one remains.

Had to laugh there again on Friday night...long story but was in a group of people stranded in an Irish airport. None of us knew each other but there there was a few CIT engineering students...and low and behold I wondered how long it would take them to say that "Engineering in CIT is alot better than UCC" or "I had the points for UCC but decided to go to CIT instead"..they didnt dissappoint...its gone on for years.

But the irony is they now want to do a degree/masters in UCC but I didnt want to be cruel by pointing it out...

Why cant CIT students just accept that they are slow learners..?:D

OP. Im not a student of CIT. But the engineering course is better in CIT than in UCC. They get a hands on approach to everything, constantly doing the physical work. Ucc students sit in a classroom for four years and maybe get work experience as part of their summer holidays.

CIT students are more down to earth people also. Theyre not pretentious about courses and they have more chance of getting jobs after than UCC students do, given their experience from working throughout their college degree.

I'm not trying to get involved in the argument here but I'm baffled by this statement?

I have no qualms about CIT students or the courses which the IT has to offer but I don't understand what you meant when you said that CIT students have a better chance of getting jobs after college than UCC students do?

Ucc students study engineering for 4 years and come out with a degree right?

CIT students study engineering and also do a lot of hands on work for 4 years.

If you were an employer would you hire the guy who has the knowledge

or would you hire the guy who has the knowledge AND knows all the ropes.

Im not trying to start an argument here either. Im just trying to defend an unfair attack on CIT engineering students. They do get more experience then UCC students.

Not one university has a better engineering course than the other. More CIT students get hired to work with ESB Networks as they have a greater practical knowledge for working with equipment on the grid where as Eirgrid and ESBI generally favour UCC students as they focus on the theory of design and distribution.
Similarly lab work in electronics companies such as Analog Devices tends to go towards graduates of UL and CIT but design of chips goes towards UCC students and other students that focus on theory. I suck at building circuits with my hands but it is not necessary as a design engineer, similarly you come across people who are adept at building and test circuits but are brutal in understanding hte theory of operation. Its horses for courses.
