sure its a mexican beer so origionally it was a lemon/lime popped in the top to disenfect the top of the bottle, you arent supposed to acually drink the beer with it in it.
And you think that isn't necessary because our bars are so clean?

Compression and decompression are what makes refrigeration work.
The refrigerant is passed through an expansion valve which drops it's temperature and then recompressed outside before passing throught the cycle again. Hence the reason the inside is cool but the back is warm.
Not sure a single slight decompression would be enough to cause instant cooling on its own though. So I'm sure there's something else going on in the bottle.

Corona is weak, filtered, flavourless, overpriced urine. Adding a lime, if anything, makes it slightly drinkable.

You can leave a beer in the freezer for 2 hours, take it out and drink it not a bother, give it a little shake when its opened and the whole thing will freeze.

Anyway, lemon/lime in a corona is retarded and disgusting, corona is far too nice to do that to, sure its a mexican beer so origionally it was a lemon/lime popped in the top to disenfect the top of the bottle, you arent supposed to acually drink the beer with it in it. Jesus, if you want to kill the taste of beer to it to Miller or Budweiser.

Hilarious, a Corona snob! Corona is chemical filled, disgusting p*ss. The only thing that makes it drinkable is the lime. It's refreshing when ice cold on a really hot day but that's about it.

Dont worry we can save the beer. Wack in in the micro for 30 secs then sit it in a sink of hot water.

Drink another borrow one if necessary while waiting.

ps: Corona tastes like sh1t I buy the cheap german beer 6 500ml bottles for 8 euro in lidl.... Tasts a lot better! :D

Totally agree with this. Lemon and limes are for pussys!

You got any sources for this info? I tend not to believe things until I see some damming evidence.

My Argument is that the pressure of the liquid is not in fact affecting the freezing of the liquid. Rather, that the ice cannot form due to not having a "seed" crystal to get it started.

This guy --> http://edutube.org/index.php?q=en/video/supercooled-beer seems to be able to freeze it with the cap still on.

Damning evidence? Try reading a Junior Cert science book.

Generally to dissolve CO2 energy is required so the liquid gains energy in this process. However, if the C02 is lost from shaking or other mechanism then energy is lost and this is represented by the freezing of the bottle of beer.

I can't shed any light on this, but a few years ago I brought home some glass bottles of coke from France and liked drinking them when they were really cold, so I tended to put them in the freezer long enough so there were tiny little crystals of ice in it. With my last bottle I had forgotten how long to put it in for and I left it in there for too long. When I eventually took it out of the freezer, the liquid looked fine. Then when I took off the cover, the coke just started to freeze up very suddenly. It froze downwards, the freezing seemed to travel down the liquid before stopping. I'd imagine it has something to do with 1. The pressure and 2. The fizziness. I'm not an expert though so I dunno...

It's the effect of depressurisation that occurs when the bottle is opened that suddenly causes it to freeze.

100% agree with this..... Belgian beer is the only way to go anyway.

Then it'd have frozen the second the bottle was open. I'm pretty sure they'd be bottled at normal pressure anyway to avoid implosion if the glass was broken. But the cooling might've contracted the air lowering the pressure. Still doesn't explain it though, freezing point decreases with lower pressure.

I spose we'll have to leave it to House. Hilarious image though.

Agree completely. What really irks me is that most barmen naturally presume you want a lime so slam it inside the bottle.

Each to their own my friend but i think you will find that about 90% of Corona drinkers like the lime! I think Corona simply isnt the same without the lime, its a requirement!!! And putting lemon instead of lime is justsilly. it MUST be lime!
90% of corona drinkers would not be able to pick it out in a blind tasting of the other flavourless top selling mass produced lagers. Yet 99% of those corona drinkers would baulk or laugh at the idea of putting lemon or lime slices in a bottle of any of those other mass produced lagers.

If people like it in their drinks so be it, but why not have it in your other beers if it is truely so good and apparently necessary? The corona lime is a true success and display of the power of marketing over irrational, illogical punters.

Stick it in a basin of luke warm water in future.

I have seen the frozen bottle many times, I have warned people about it too, e.g. a mate comes back from the fridge and I warn them not to open them but they still do and are shocked to see it freeze. You can tell just by looking at them sometimes. If the beer inside is below zero then the bottle will get very frosty looking. If you leave it out you can see moisture in the air freezing on it, or if you rinse it and it starts to ice up around the bottle then leave it out.

Yep, just like they put ice & lemon in spirits too. If guinness launched an ad campaign to stick a strawberry in your pint I wonder how many people would just go along with it and then start claiming "its not guinness without the strawberry, wheres my strawberry you stupid barman"
