All I can say to 'His Highness' is your lucky! & I wonder where you at the same concert as the rest of us??? Maybe if you witnessed a person getting RAMMED DOWN in front of you on that dark long road, you might not be so smug, I feel totally let down for many reasons, we where robbed by event organisers,Bus Eireann & let down by the so called gardai-'why did they not do something'? and I think I've a right to moan like many others, & as or oasis they really gave a poor show, we should'nt have to put up with this crap- it's been an experience alright one I won't be ever repeating & I just hope that person is okay that was injured- 'AN ENTITLED MOANER'

Stole this from the Poker forum, lol at the spelling on it!

Loved Oasis, Kasabian were great as well and despite the fact I dont really like them I thought The Prodigy were very good too.

Had a real good day but was spoiled by the joke of a situation with the buses coming back. Was back in O'Connell st by 4:15 and most people had to then get a taxi home. Ah well

EDIT: I assume that clip is allowed? If its not, Lordgoat you can obv take it down or I will if ya PM to.

I've been to slane 4-5times...each time theres always a queue for beer and theres always a long walk to carpark (I had VIP Carpark pass so didnt have to walk far - but was kinda at the back of the car queue).... made it back into Dublin for 1.30am (ish) ..... and we left after the encore.

as the poster above says its the celtic tiger cubs - who normally have everything nice and easy who are whining..... granted it was bad organisation - but its like that every year,

I do think a number of things could be done to make thing easier (like stop the gardai on point duty - only stops the flow of traffic)
put a number of car parks in sererate areas (leaving in different directions - ensure the pathways to the car parks takes varying amounts of time (ie. if someone leaves grounds for carpark A it will take him 20mins to get to his car, if someone leaves to goto carpark B will take 20mins but in opposite direction - so if they are going same direction - one wont cause a delay for the other, if going different directions they wont interfere with each other paths - hope that makes sense)

Tiger cubs ??????I got Dublin Bus and it was terrible.

You get the vip parking pass:confused:

    You can not talk mate

Walked for 9 miles (according to some local), for 5 and a half hours, until me and one of the lads found some minibus going back to dublin.

The driver said he lived on the road we were all walking up and he couldnt get home, so he thought he might aswell do a run!! He charged 15 quid a head and dropped us all to our doors. furthest he went was killiney. Sound sound man.

Dublin bus are a pissing disgrace though, i bouth a return ticket during the week, bus up no problem. even though it dropped us miles from the castle.
But there was a ticket bus after the gig, selling single tickets for a fiver. so there was more people heading back then heading up, and probably less buses.

So all the buzz killingtons who got there last and left early got the 1st buses.

P.s our driver on the way home said that the gardai were breathalising every car on the way out, which explains a huge tailback.

There was also people blocking the Dublin buses leaving because they werent letting any more people on, even though the people on the upper deck were visibly sitting across the seats so the upper deck was only half full.

I also remember a woman, ill say late 40s, who was crying because noone would let her on a bus. i saw a guy offer to get off the bus and let her on and the driver refused.

    never again

I had a similarly bad experience!!! Love the venue but its just such a pity that the lack of organisation caused so many people to not enjoy it to its fullest. Here's a petition to sign about it addressed to MCD...

Slane is a woefully inadequate venue for that number of punters.

There where serious safety concerns AFAIK last night. I witnessed several fights and the guards seemed to not want to know. The transport situation was a joke according to my friends. One of them arrived in his house in Deansgrange at 5.30am this morning. Luckily my wife's sisters house was only a 30 minute walk from the exit so i was back and had my feet up by 12pm. I think the guards need to take a good long hard look at the venue for any future gig's. 80,000+ people is just too many.

Yeah neither did I, just what the driver said.

i did hear one guy on the phone to the gardai and they hung up on them.

He was basically asking if they realised there was thousands of people walking up these roads in the dark with no idea where they were going and no gardai around, they were all back in the town.

I didnt have any problems in the gig except for when i ended up in the first aid tent. I brought drink in so didnt have any queues for pints.

Seen a few punch ups, one guy must of got a awful smack in the eye. Only thing that really pissed me off was muppets throwing stuff.

We were still waiting on a taxi at 2.40 outside dolly mitchells pub and about 4 dublin buses went by with garda motorbike escort. These buses were filled with gardai who had been at the venue and surrounding area of slane.
There was still hundreds of people walking up the dark roads at this stage not knowing where they were going to end up. Surely the gardai should or could have done something at this stage or maybe they were in a hurry home and couldnt have cared less.

While I do agree the whole thing was a mess I think your comments were unfair.

From what I saw the Gardai were trying to get the buses to the "stranded" people as soon as possible. They brought the manpower with them because the crowds at various spots along the road were big enough to fill 3 or 4 buses at a time. Makes sense to put the Gardai on the buses than wasting patrol cars?

What a joke........travelled half way round the world to see Oasis for the last 15 years and i can guarantee nothing would bring me back to the sleepy town of slane, crap site, terrible sound, terrible bar set up and a complete shambles of organisation. i love concerts and festivals but to be hearded along like a bunch of animals to get into the concert was a complete joke and then queing for 90 minutes to buy a couple of pints of fizzy heineken....the bus journey home was a joke infact the local authorities need some serious training as when i asked a couple of police am i going the right way they just said we can't deal with this pressure they need to head to Anfield each Saturday in the middle of November after the footy finishes to see how to deal with crowds, anyone who goes to see oasis wants to dive around and sing anthems but also want fairly easy access to the bar to get hammered and have a laugh all the laughs where on the bands who made a whole load of money for an event with very little set up I wonder if Dublin buses will be coughing up refunds i will certainly be emailing them! I guess anyone wishing to go to slane in the future would be better of with a hot air ballon like the chap who hovered over when oasis first came on! or better still just hire a helicopter to get to the site! As to Oasis yes when they come on they are always great!
finally whats the point in having posh electronic emailed tickets if not a single one is checked surely this cries out for stupid amount of people getting in for free!

I wonder of all the people who are totally unhappy and totally shocked at what happened last night, for those comparing it to hillsborough, for those saying something has to be changed before someone dies.

Will you write to anyone? will you send a letter to the organisers outlining your outrage? will you write to Dublin Bus and complain that their exit plan was a disgrace?

If you feel so strongly about all of this, I suggest you do something about it apart from moan on an internet forum in the hope the "someone important" might read it.

This was not the gardai bringing buses to people,it was the gardai who had finished their shift.
I said earlier in the thread that we were directed to this country road by a garda who told us it would bring us to the drogheda buses. Turns out there was no buses at all allowed to go this way. It was literally the road to drogheda.
The gardai had a tough job yesterday but for the most part there was absolutely no communication from the gardai, dublin bus or any stewards informing people what to do and any gardai i complained to were indifferent and said that they werent told any of arrangements beforehand either.

Yes, I will be. Not now though as I'm still a bit p!ssed off by some of it. I'll do it later in the week when I'm doing it with a clear head.

Well just as you are wasting your time throughout today, thanking anyone that says something along the lines of " Dont go to slane if you arent up for this kind of festival" other people are entitled to speak about the situation at slane yesterday which was reminiscent of the hillsborough disaster and it is a disaster waiting to happen.

So yes I will be doing something other than "moaning" and writing letters to mcd, slane castle and whoever their representative is and also the Gardai and Dublin Bus.

This thread was set up for discussions on Slane and I will not stop posting my own experience just because you feel your experience was different.

Do NOT ever go to Slane EVER.

It's the worst venue in the world. Oasis were pretty good, Prodigy were Class. 5Km walk to Slane from the Bus stop. 7km walk back to the Dublin Busses.

Concert Finished at 10:35pm so we started walking Back to Bus, we got there at 12:10am. We moved 400meters by 2:20am, that's over 2 hours for a few hundred meters. Got back to Dublin at 3:35am, into Burger King, then home to Rathfarnham at 5am.
    What a DISASTER.

I couldn't see because it was dark but I think some of the busses were taken off the motor way and sent the down on the old Ashburn Road. I think we joined up with the motor way after the Ashburn Lodge and I noticed about 20 busses on the adjacent motorway.

6.5 Million Euro in ticket sales and just a disgrace of a set up to show for it. The Bar was a complete joke too. 1 and a half hour Queue for just 2 drinks. I blame Dublin Bus, The guys running the car parks, the Gardai (mainly), MCD.

I don't know if there was a crash up ahead or what the delay was!!! I hope the organisers will get back to the punters and let us know what happened. Their was people passing out on our bus due to dehydration because they were on the bus so long.

Anyway, I'm NEVER going to Slane again.....

If Elvis Presley was playing there next year, I still wouldn't go.

    Map of Distance

So then, I have read through so many posts of whinge I thought it was time I should reply. You see that map, thats how much at the very most you walked yesterday, 4.7km or 2.9 miles, not 9 miles, not 10kms not even 6kms. Its hardly a bloody marathon .

    Buildup:

Firstly I arrived in Dublin at 11am, parked up met up with some mates for lunch and went to the Jervis St shopping Centre to pick up some bus tickets at the ticketmaster desk, couldnt been easier. Had lunch , checked in to hotel and headed to Parnell st at 2pm.

Lots of people milling around Parnell St, no problem getting a bus, everyone was in good spirits. Bus made good time and was out at Slane for about 3.45 having left at 2.30ish. I wasnt drinking nor were my bro or mate, but so many ppl seemed completed locked at 4pm in the day and off their tits, but hey thats their perrogative not mine. The area was quite messy and I certainly saw no bins whatsoever , so what can you expect.

Anyways made it over to the bridge, and to the main gate, all fairly swift, must been about 4.30 at this stage, tickets checked as well as bags. Forest was a bit hectic, but having been to Slane before I knew it could take some time to get through, anyways, kept moving and pushing forward, took about 30 mins or so to reach the end of the forest. Tickets CHECKED , and into the concert.

The venue was pretty damn busy at 5pm, we just missed Glasvegas but I am not a fan so wasnt bothered I was there to see Kasabian , Prodigy and Oasis. We got some food and soft drinks, ate and drank , then headed down through the crowd, for the bottom left hand corner. Even though most the venue was packed, we got right down beside the barrier of the pit, hardly no one seemed to make their way down there.

    Gig Wise:

    ->I loved Kasabian , great set !
->Prodigy were bloody mental, missed them at Oxegen last year , so glad I saw them yesterday, they were brilliant, was wrecked from jumping about after their set.
->Oasis for me were excellent, I have been a fan all my life and to see them finally live in concert was brilliant for me, sang along the whole way through with me bro, ( who was skeptical b4 the gig as its not necessarily his sort of music but he loved the concert)

    Aftermath:

So just before Oasis kicked in to "I am the Walrus" we decided to make the trek from the very bottom to the top of the hill. ;) We made it to the top just before Oasis closed up, so 5 mins through a couple of thousand ppl.

We made are way back to the bus, so that took about 40 mins or so.

It was quite busy so we asked one of the "MANY" dublin bus stewards ( in big yellow jackets with dublin bus on their back) around where to go, they said keep moving along up the road to find a bus with some seats on the right hand side, so we did no problem. Eventually the bus we were on got going and took about 35 mins to get out of the Slane area, because it was so busy , messy, ppl everywhere . Left at 11pm and reached O'Connell st for 12.20 ish , which for us was great timing.

    Conclusion

Concerts like this involve huge amounts of ppl, normal ppl, drunk, drugged, scumbags etc, thats life. I dont understand going to these gigs drugged or drunk but as I said before its got nothing to do with me, for me I enjoyed a great event with my bro and mate. The amount of moaning and whinging here is insufferable , what do you want seriously, its huge event, and bussing possibly 60-70k of people is a massive and difficult operation in a small area. When you have people everywhere and buses trying to get out, what do you want them to do, knock people down? For me it was one of the best concerts in my life.

I will go again to concerts like this, cause for me nothing is better than being able to appreciate such great bands in your own country.

    Chong

Hey everyone, this is ireland, its a shambles of a country anyway, if the government can't organise themselves then how do you expect this gig to be organised. Its in the irish blood to be un-organised.
