After a Key related issue last weekend during a training run just wondered what do people do with car keys while runing. About 50% of my shorts have pockets that can hold the keys with out problems but some don't, so i'd usually attach them to the shorts any way possible.

Last week i decided to hide them in some really long grass and i'd say they will be very safe there for a long long long long time...

    I have a lockbox

Small little box outside the apartment with a combination lock.
    It's brilliant I tell ya!

Before I moved to this gaff, I was carrying the keys or hiding under the wheelie-bin

haha....I generally run or take my bike to my running location, so it's either one small house key and/or a bike lock key threaded through my laces.

I started out using one of those tourist belts for keys and phone.
These days I'm more careful in my choice of running shorts that I buy.
There is normally a tiny little pocket on the inside of the tri shorts/ running shorts , which is enough for the car key once it's off the keyring

I take the car key (A flip up type) with me and put the rest in the boot of the car. It fits perfectly in the pocket of my shorts or in a jacket at winter time. I do the same when running from the house.

...up above the wheel of my car...(hope no one knows me here!!);)

One of the great perks of the IMRA runs is that there is always a key bag which takes care of one little aspect of my races.

I only buy running shorts with zip pockets. Hate the shorts with the useless other pockets. imra key bag is great (you can choose which car to drive home - I wish). Often stick key about wheel arch if zip pockets shorts are all in the wash.

Get a small wrist pocket thingy. 'Hilly' does them. Velcro's around your wrist -you don't notice it after a few mins and theres no way it'll fall off.

I generally hold it. Don´t even realise it´s there after a while.

use zip pockets in shorts or if no zip pocket....

... use two safety pins attached to inside shorts and key through it.

I don't drive so I don't have the car keys issue, but I usually put my house key on my shoelace. Always right foot, right lace.

for the first time carried mine in my hand while racing the lucan 5k last sunday but i normally either stash it somewhere around the car or have a little pocket with a zip on the back of one my shorts that i can just put the car key into ..

that is of course unless my fan club is there to hold em:D aka the crocked members from the athletic club!

I always catch my key in the string of my shorts and tie a double knot - Is that not obvious  - was very handy about 12 years ago in the Frank Duffy 10, I had parked my car on the main road and the previous week I had a virus so was feeting sh|t as I ran past my car at 6miles I just turned around and got in and drove home - the looks on some peoples faces was priceless :D

I only buy shorts with the small inside pocket and stash it there. Although I generally run from home so it's only a house key I have to carry.

Someone mentioned the wrist band holders, there's also similar ones that attach to your laces.

I have a key holder that clips to my shoe laces, got it in one of the sports shop chains for about e5. Was a bit worried that it might come off or loose but it never has (I'm going for a run in the woods later on, murphy's law I'll lose it & have to run 15 miles home)!
Alternatively, I put a single house or car key on a ring (the silver metal ring part of a keyring) that fits round my index or middle finger, when I'm running this tucks nicely into the palm of my hand and I don't even notice it's there.

    I use something like
http://www.surflock.com.au/ for swimming when carrying the key just isn't possible. For running, I usually put it in a pocket if I have one or carry it otherwise.

Last year I went running around the Curragh in the evening. After an 8 mile loop, I opened the zip pocket in my shorts and found a hole and no key. Had to get someone to drive up from Dublin with the spare. I'll never trust those little net pockets again.:(

Were those keys for a VWPassat? I found somer while running in the Curragh last year!

LOL, can you go back out and pick up the car for me? The battery mightn't be flat yet. :D

I've had a bad experience a couple of years ago with my car key while on a long run..I'd just bought a new car on a Saturday, drove the car to the Papal cross car park in the Phoenix Park for a long run on Sunday. For years i always tied my key to my laces and never had any problems. My new car key didn't have a big enough hole for my laces to go through so i had to resort to plan B ! Put my key in my running jacket pocket and zipped it up, and off i went with my clubmates for a long run..Jogging past the back of the Civil Service clubhouse i noticed my key had gone:eek:

My mates ran back with me, the way we came to try and find the key..I might add "my mates didn't slow down" as they run at a very fast pace "even on a Sunday" ! We spread out in a line of four and to my delight the key was found...I was so lucky as i didn't get a spare key for my new car when i bought it..

Never ran with a key since:)

Usually put them in a pocket in my shorts. Got a new car a couple of weeks back and the key is twice the size of my old car key. Ran with it in my shorts pocket yesterday and now have a large enough bruise that resembles a hickie ! The hickey is quite close to my ......... well it's quite central so I needed to point it out to the other half in case she thought I was doing something more exciting than running when I headed off for a run :D

I only buy shorts with a zipped key pocket at the small of your back and always put the key there. I take the car key off the key chain so it is small and light. I am also concious when buying a car what the key is like, some brands have unfeasibly large keys. My current one is very light and is pretty much not noticeable when running.
