Corona Extra Drinkers - Bit of help here

    Ok well i just got home, popped open a bottle of Corona that was in the freezer. Everything was fine, not frozen. I cut a slice of lemon (no limes) and put it in.

    Bottle goes all crazy on me with mist coming from it and then next of all the beer begins to freeze from top to bottom. And here i am now with a frozen bottle of beer....?

    Why the **** did this happen?

    Could be a lesson for drinking piss....or punishment for using a lemon....or a combination of the two.

    I believe this happens because the beer is below 0 degrees, and when you put the lemon slice into the bottle it gives the ice crystals something to latch onto, thus starting the freezing. I saw this on youtube a while ago -->

    It happens with any beer, its fine when you take it out of the freezer but open it and shake up the bottle a bit (thus mixing oxygen into the beer) causes it to freeze up in a split second.

    I don't think its the oxygen, I think its either the ice crystals having something to start the freezing, or the change in pressure in the liquid cos of the release of the bubbles, but I'm not convinced by the pressure argument at the moment.

    You can leave a beer in the freezer for 2 hours, take it out and drink it not a bother, give it a little shake when its opened and the whole thing will freeze.

    Anyway, lemon/lime in a corona is retarded and disgusting, corona is far too nice to do that to, sure its a mexican beer so origionally it was a lemon/lime popped in the top to disenfect the top of the bottle, you arent supposed to acually drink the beer with it in it. Jesus, if you want to kill the taste of beer to it to Miller or Budweiser.

    I think it has to do with the bottle being under pressure, once the pressure is released then the freezing point of the beer is increased therefore the beer can freeze at a higher temperature than when it was under pressure in the bottle. Clear as mud.

    Each to their own my friend but i think you will find that about 90% of Corona drinkers like the lime! I think Corona simply isnt the same without the lime, its a requirement!!! And putting lemon instead of lime is justsilly. it MUST be lime!

    I think the beer was already at a temperature below 0, but the freezing did not start because the inside of the bottle is so smooth there is nowhere for the ice crystals to start forming.

    The fact that an alcohol/water mixture will have a lower freezing point than pure water probably contributes too. FYI, don't freeze beer. When it thaws out it tastes watery and mank.

    I never understood the appeal of Corona and Lime. "Oh look at me with my beer with a slice of ****ing fruit floating around in it". Its like a more acceptable version of west coast cooler for people who've lost the keys to the closet. Man up and start drinkin some 8.5% dutch pisswater, it will put hair on your balls instead of a manbag on your shoulder.

    I was doing bar work 'round the time it became acceptable for guys to ask for fruit in their beer. The first few that asked me got some weird looks. It's up there with guys drinking alco pops through straws to me.

    Agt room temprature the bottle is pressurised when closed, when it is in the fridge for 3-5 hours the liquid is below zero but still too pressureized to freeze, then you remove the lid it doesnt instantly freeze because the molecules are too cold to move fast enough to depressurise and cause the liquid to freeze, then you smack it/disturbe it and release the carbondioxide it de-pressurises the liquid and it freezes, fairly simple stuff.

    I'm getting a bit obsessed by why this is actually happening I have found the following diagram thats shows the freezing / boiling points of water at different pressures --> http://www.lsbu.ac.uk/water/phase.html

    It would seem that the freezing point is not affected much by small changes in the pressure of the liquid in and around the pressure of the earths atmosphere, "E" on that diagram.

    I also am not convinced that when the bottle has been open the liquid is under any pressure at all, as it has an opening into the atmosphere, I think the liquid will be at atmospheric pressure. I do not think that the fact that it is carbonated makes any difference to the pressure of the liquid.

    I'm certainly open to being convinced other wise. I would like to know the real reason behind this, not just what some people think is the reason.

    What I posted is the real reason, not what I just think. it is DEPRESSURISED when the bottle is opened but the molecules are too cold to move fast enough to release the gass.

    What happend when you open a bottle? it fizzes up due to a release of pressure.

    when you give the bottle a smack it moves the gas which then rushes to the top, depressurising the liquid and allowing it to freeze as it would if thr gas wasn't present in the liquid.

    You got any sources for this info? I tend not to believe things until I see some damming evidence.

    My Argument is that the pressure of the liquid is not in fact affecting the freezing of the liquid. Rather, that the ice cannot form due to not having a "seed" crystal to get it started.

    In the previous video, it appears that the freezing starts from the top (neck of the bottle), the one where the cap is still on the bottle. This appears to contradict your opinion?

    Corona is weak, filtered, flavourless, overpriced urine. Adding a lime, if anything, makes it slightly drinkable.
