if you run up €20k debts on a credit card and just outright refuse to pay it back is there anything they can actually do ?

after reading the credit card thread a lot of people are in debt but if all the can do is send letters is there any point giving them anything ?

To begin with, you'll probably have to live without accessing credit from any reputable lender for the rest of your life.

I'm pretty sure they can access your assets - I know someone who can't sell his house or release any assets because of a debt he owes to two clients. I think you can get a judgement against you in the courts in that regard.

Legally they are obliged to break your ankles with a sledgehammer.

God won´t let you into Heaven.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

OP, please ignore this "hilarious" post.

    They actually use a jackhammer.

You refuse to pay your debt?
Of course they can do more than send letters. They can bring you to court and destroy your credit rating and ensure you never get a loan/mortgage again...

if you have 5 credit cards and you transfer all the balances to one card that would leave 1 blacklisted card and four clean ones ,would it not ?

They don't blacklist cards, they blacklist people. If you default on one card, they'll cancel all of your cards.

So you have a Visa and a MasterCard ... what were the other three cards again?

Which is probably a good thing considering.

Send a few burly looking fellows around to your house to rough you up a bit.

They'll probably sell the debt to a debt collection agency, such as the lovely one run by "the viper". They will then do what they can to get the cash out of you.

They tried that on me but I put a mop on my head and tied some curtains around me like a dress. When the came to the door I opened it and said "yohooooo". The burly guys jaws dropped to the floor and their eyes popped out.I waited till they closed their eyes and lent in for a kiss...thats when I hit them in the face with a frying pan. I call this the Bugs Bunny method

I don't have a mop, would a dustpan and brush or tea towel do instead?

About 200 people are sent to prison each year for non-payment of debt.

If you leave the country most likely they wont be able to come after you. That's an option for you....

Not necessarily, if you are looking for work, or trying to get credit in other countries they could request credit references from Ireland.

Yes, but why are they deemed to be in contempt of court?

I find this question strange. If of course in theory a person runs up 20k in debt and feels they should not have to worry to much cause they dont pay it what is the differece between them and the @ssh@le bankers who have run up 2 billion dept and feel they should not have to pay!

If you were not thinking when buyng the flatscreen then now is time for a cold cold shower

    In theory of course!
