    the new york ripper

    basket case

are all awesome.Which version of New York Ripper did you get? There are a load of different cuts available and alot of them are heavily edited due to the violence/mysoginy (s/p) particularly
    the nipple slitting scene.

i dont know which version i have not seen it yet. i hope the nipple slicing scene is in it cos in my copy of zombie flesh eaters the eye gouging scene is left it so fingers crossed!!! i have to admit though from what i heard new york ripper is mysoginist trash of the highest order!!:( but hey after tarantino and rodrigruez made the grindhouse movie and basically talked non stop about obscure b movie trash when they were promoting said movie i thought i would purchase some grade z horror in tower records in dublin.

Hmmm,if thats where you bought New York Ripper it is likely cut.Zombie Flesh Eaters got passed uncut a few years ago, hence the eye gouging scene being intact. If you bought it in Tower would it be this one?(saw it there myself a couple of weeks ago)

    http://www.shameless-films.com/2007/09/18/new-york-ripper-dvd-release/

Running time: 87.07 mins (BBFC cut)

Below is one of the best versions. Its from Blue Underground.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THE-NEW-YORK-RIPPER-1982-Lucio-Fulci-Uncut-DVD_W0QQitemZ280303382644QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CDsDVDs_DVDs_DVDs_GL?hash=item280303382644&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

    Run Time: 93 minutes

The Anchor Bay region 1 release is also totally uncut, some other import versions are also uncut.

6 minutes difference in the run time does not look good,if it is the Shameless films release you got.

I would never buy the older horror movies such as this or say Maniac in any shop because they are usually the heavily edited versions. If Im not sure which version is which I google it then dig around ebay or other online retailers.I hate cut movies.

oh bugger i bought the edited version. oh well its still choc full of nastiness anyway!! the only trouble i would have with buying on ebay is i dont have a credit card so that kinda knocks that on the head!! but thanks for the heads up ned! also if it is edited by the bbfc then if you are buying the uncut version on ebay wont customs not intercept the uncut version since it contains scenes that are supposed to be edited?? a bit of a silly question i know but i was just wondering??

Ive bought alot of extreme horror stuff online - August Underground Trilogy, murder set pieces,aftermath/genesis,men behind the sun boxset, new york ripper etc - none of which are available in store over here - and they have been shipped from places like the States,UK,Holland and even Australia and Ive never had any hassles what so ever in regards customs.I think you would be incredibly unlucky to have something intercepted by customs. They have bigger fish to fry than looking out for horror movies.

As for not having a credit card, neither do I.

    www.3v.ie is your best friend.

You can pay through paypal using these.Paypal is accepted by the vast majority of ebay users and other online stores too.

Watching Splinter and Laid to Rest tonight. Can't wait. Laid to Rest is meant to be the best gore slasher in ages. Great cast too.

No worries mate we are all human. I watched that Haunting movie last week and thought it was quite good, better than expected, the trailer did not do it justice.

Watched Splinter last night. Not bad at all, some excellent effects. Going to watch Laid to Rest now.

    NOTLD is classic.
    The Brood,meh.

MMT,meh, could have been so much better.

    Splinter,never heard of it.

you should watch splinter ned its a good little low budget horror. vinnie jones was his usual self in meat train hammerin the ****e outta folks, not too far off of what he did on the pitch when he played for wimbledon if truth be told.

Watched Laid to Rest a few nights ago, threw up a basic review here. Quite good. Excellent effects.

    House of 1000 Corpses.
Enjoyed it more second time around.Still pales in comparison to the Devils Rejects.

    Halloween (remake)
Better than I expected.Total bastardization of the original but as remakes go not that bad.

    Brain Dead
    This one - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0914799/
It was on zone horror last night.Turned it on thinking it was Peter Jacksons gorefest. Its actually pretty good. Some top notch make up and effects plus more boobs than you can shake a stick at.Good low budget fun.Think Bad Taste crossed with Bone Sickness.

Last House on the Left 09.
Posted on this in the main film forum.Meh.

Snuff 102 - Interesting Argentinian faux snuff movie. It is pretty brutal in places including
a very realistic and protracted beating/murder of a pregnant woman
but then drags in others.Could have been 15 or 20 minutes shorter. Not a bad addition to the genre (faux snuff) though.

    Aftermath/Genesis - Nacho Cerda's 2 shorts.Aftermath still packs a huge punch,even after a couple of viewings.Genesis is excellent too.

Thriller : A Cruel Picture - Quality Swedish exploitation. The inserted hardcore porn scenes took away from it IMO but its still thoroughly enjoyable.Plus Christina Lindberg was a total cutie.

i watched Torso and Strip Nude For Your Killer. both movies were great especially Torso which in my mind is a masterpiece of Italian Giallo cinema. strip nude is great but has one unintentional funny scene and a very shocking anal sex gag right at the end. really bizarre!!!

Poor Mad Max homage/rip-off.Some decent gore.

    I am Legend

Piss poor Omega Man remake. It just rubber stamped why I hate Will Smith movies.

God Doomsday is annoying, sounded like a great premise in the hands of a great director but next thing it turns out to be exactly what it sounded like on paper, "homage" after "homage"

I Am Legend did one bit of good, drove me to track down a copy of The Omega Man

Can't remember if I posted it here already but watched a cracking little film the other day, Splinter. Basic enough premise of a few heads trapped in a gas station as an other worldly parasitic creature attempts to break in at them. Truly disturbing amputation scene.

I went to see Drag Me to Hell there last week, very enjoyable Sam Rami fare indeed. Still a little flawed in placed but OK over all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

Drag Me To Hell is astounding. A modern day Evil Dead.

Finally got around to watching Splinter, thought it was pretty decent. Last night I watched Norweigen slasher Cold Prey which I thought was impressive.

    Like horror, love Japanese film.
So Meatball Machine gets my vote: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0820111/
full of japanese strangeness in the vein of Tetsuo the Iron Man. Influenced by the likes of Bad Taste and Evil Dead, while the story is uniquely japanese. Cheesy costumes and special effects and low budget only add to the appeal. One of the highlights of the current wave of japanese gore films.
Some other japanese hightlights are Wildzero http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0267116/ punk band save the world from zombies) and Battle Royale http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/(an extreme lord of the flies) Appologies if they are obvious choice but I havent seen them mentioned on this thread.
Midnight Meat Train has been talked about on the thread for those of you that don't know it was directed by one of my favorite directors Ryuhei Kitamura

On a sidenote I picked it up in Hmv but only had a bbfc certificate, no Irish Film Board certificate. Some pretty graphic scenes in it but seems completely uncut, unsual for a japanese film released over here.

Watched Das Komabrutale Duell last night. Its an absolutely insane German splatter film from Heiko Fipper.Low budget, cheesey effects but highly enjoyable.Kinda reminiscent of Brain Dead or Bad Taste.
Here's some scenes from it.Obviously NSFW.

Also watched Men Behind the Sun 3 : A Narrow Escape.
Very unimpressed with this one.It basically stole a crap load of footage from part 2(Labaratory of the Devil) and spliced it in flashback style with new footage about Japanese soldiers at the end of the war.Avoid.

2 I watched there a few nights ago. These are both part of a triple boxset

    Warlock Moon

This is a film I would never have seen if it weren't in this boxset. It's a strange and slow little film. There's not much to recommend in it. Scares are low and there is very little gore or killings in it at all really. Stil I kinda liked it. It hard a strange charm to it and a few twists while hardly mind blowing kept things moving.

    Man From Deep River

I find it strange that films like this and Slave of the Cannibal God and Cannibal Holocaust have such production values. Once again these are films that should be crap but they invariably manage to suck me in. There's nothing particularly special about this one. The start of the film is actually all over the place and leaves you wondering whats going on before he sets out on his Photo Expedition. There's very little cannibalism in this but alot of animal cruelty. If you don't like that stuff steer clear as there are scenes of monkeys, snakes, cockrels and alligators, to name a few, being killed for little reason. The film ends up being more of a love story so it'll probably turn off the more hardcore of you. For the most part it's a good and well made film that if your curious is worth a look. Not groundbreaking or controversial for much else.
